So I'm about ready to upgrade from my little 300D (and it's silver, ewww), now my question is this: is it worth it to upgrade from the 300d to the 400d xti, or should i just wait a while longer until i have enough cash to get the 5d?
i'm doing mostly portraiture work right now, so poster-sized prints and super fast fps rates aren't really what i need...but lately my camera has been acting up a bit (randomly shutting itself off, then half a second later turning back on again? wth? and then there's always my frustrating white line, which [as i read earlier on the dpreview forums] is actually a sign that my shutter is about to die [AGAIN]) and i'd like to get a new camera before this one gives up the ghost for good.
so.
does anyone have any advice for me about this? i really know nothing about buying cameras...when i bought my 300d, the XT came out about a month later, so of course the 300d prices plummeted...is there any way to predict whether or not this sort of thing will happen again? like...does canon introduce new cameras at the same time every year, or something like that?
oof. does this look like a good deal, or just a scam?
so yeah. i'd appreciate anyone's advice on all this. =)
thanks tons.

i was in your situation ... i didn't know whether to get a newer camera or a better camera.

my opinion, if you can afford it, don't buy the newer version of the same camera ... push yourself into a better camera. i think you'll be happier and a better photographer for it in the long run! :)

If you feel comforable with the 400D go for it.

As far as I know 5D demands good glass for good results and cheking your profile I can say tha t shopping won't stop at the camera.

sounds like a reasonable upgrade for what you do.
