I am so dissapointed. My picture looked so good on my computer screen and then when posted here looks.....like crap. Is there anyway to tell what it will look like before posting? I am extremely disapointed!

This is pretty much what my shot does and I have a 4.5 or so (the one time I looked) with DNMC comments. So maybe what you're describing isn't really low key?

I took that whole argument a bit like a rant. Some things I agreed with, but others not.

Although it does seem that people just converted their image to B&W, put the contrast up and thought they had a low key photo.

My view of a low key photo is, when the low key effect is purely done by good lighting. Darkening out some areas, enhancing others.

The proof of the pudding... as they say, the voters will always have the last laugh. I think we all get too carried away with personal likes and dislikes and hence any common universally acceptable judgement is never possible. The photographers choice is obvious coz its his own baby but the very minute the baby is out on a forum like this it becomes everyone right to comment on it. For those of us who view our art beyond anyone's opinion, its better to keep our work in closet and don't let anyone look at it. Even Picasso and Dali have critics so thats a fair game i guess

Ugh ... went to bed with a 6+ (though voters didn't get started until later than usual it seems) then awoke to a freakin' 5.2xxx! :(

Guess I don't know Low Key. Or I don't know how to appease voters without using a human subject or studio lighting. Instead I worked only with ambient light and non-human form, spending more than four hours in setup and taking near 75 images to get the shot I envisaged.

Good think I use the challenges as a basis for finding subject matter to shoot rather than shooting only for DPC ... otherwise I'd be awfully depressed with how my "peers" here view my efforts. ;-)

On to the next challenge.

why can't low key be a photo of whatever the hell I want? who are you to tell someone what they can't photograph. you are a voter. if you don't like it then vote low (which we all know you love to do) but don't grandstand and tell people what they can't photograph. since you quit i guess i won't expect a response either.

Your also a very low voter, you cant possibly tell me that you really think that out of almost 3000 votes cast that you think that most of the photos on this site deserve a low 3 vote. That is rediculous and pitful.

Well i agree with you here, everyone is entitled to his opinion and if you think most images are 3.3 - they are. Thats what the whole fun here is all about - opinions!

my question is that if you hate so many images why the hell do you stay around. if i go somewhere and i don't like anything I leave. BTW i thought you quit. it seems you like to stir up shit. You made a rant and i responded. you responded and i let it go, but you just had to respond again several minutes later why? were you just trying to get me to continue arguing? you can respond in PM if you want so as to not clog up the thread anymore.

Well i said its all about opinions, the question now is does one person's opinion is of any consequence to you Elvis? 1 in 250 is hardly anything to talk about i guess

sorry if you think i was talking to you. i edited my post to remove you as that was an accident. my problem is when people try to force thier opinions so much. like telling people what they can't shoot. as i said before if you don't like it vote it down, who cares but the person i was responding to posts like once per week bitching about how things
DNMC and it gets on my nerves.
