I'm entering the local photography contest here and I have to order prints pretty soon so I can have them in on time. In the landscape catagory, I can't decide between these two images. Anyone want to shout out and give me their take?
I like the vibrant colors and the view across the water. I'm not sure about the silhouette tree branches that frame it, and the power line across the way bothers me.
This is one of my favorite shots. I like the mist and the soft colors, the bit of darkness - I think it really shows sunrise well. But I'm not sure if it's too dark, or too subtle.

I'd go with the first one, the blue is stunning...But what about a BW conversion of the second? The mist is lovely but the rest of the image is kind of flat... |

I realize that this may not be helpful for choosing, but here goes:
I like the first one in that it is bright. I really like the framing that the silhouettes of the pine branches on top and the one branch on the bottom kind of give it. They direct the eye towards the main point of the picture, the mirrored image of the shoreline and the lake. To be honest, I don't see the powerlines in the background, or maybe I do, but I wouldn't have if you hadn't mentioned them, I really had to look.
The bottom one, you're right, is very subtle. I personally really like the light and dreamy calmness that it emanates, but I don't think it's right for a contest of just landscape. I'm not sure if i like the picnic table in it either.
So after writing what I think of them, I guess I like the top photo better. There ya go :) |

Thank you both. That's what my parent's said too, but I wanted an outside opinion too :-)
I'm going to go with the first one. Wish me luck!

Both nice shots, though, I think the top one is a better bet for a contest. The power lines aren't a huge distraction at this size. That may change depending on how large a print you need. The only other suggestion would be to clone out that dust bunny in the water, just out from the limbs at the lower left.
GL! :) |

Darn, I didn't even see the dust bunny until you told me where to look! And I just ordered them, too. Well, hopefully it won't show up on a 5x7.

Gotta love Mpix, I was able to cancel my order, fix the spot, upload the new version, and reorder. Thanks for the save, error99!
Found that I couldn't heal it out without making it look funny, so a few very low strength passes with the dodge tool got it.
