Hmmm, I have spent the last half hour trying to work out which village near Sana'a it is. The internet hasn't helped, so I shall have to dig out my rather out of date atlas.

From the yannarthusbertrand.com site, this is not a fortress/castle, but a village near Sana'a. This kind of fortified village appears to be common in the area - a common historic style of architecture. I think that this may be it on Google Maps. However, Google has no map function at this level, so I have no idea what it might be called.

I'd like to travel to Yemen a lot - it looks really interesting and un-touristy. Other similar villages here and here.

I think so! I mentioned Kohlan in Hajja area, almost sure it´s the one :)

i can tell you without a shred of doubt, that it is in fact superman's fortress of solitude ... it looks a little different to the movie, but that's because of global warming!!!!

I am pretty sure that is not Kohlan - it is not built into a side of a mountain, but on top of a crest.

I am certain that the site I found on Google maps is it - the buildings in the foreground match, and the mountains in the background are in the right place (the helicopter is on the north west of the village looking south east).

This place has a similar style to the one in your picture with the lightening around the windows. Maybe that is common in all of their buildings though... Here is the
