Okay, a friend is taking me to the Spurs basketball game tonight. He has great seats (approximately the 8th row in line with the free throw line).

Can I bring my camera with the 70-200L lens to take pictures from my seat (assuming I'm not going to profit from the pictures)?

I tried googling the answer but nothing came up.

try checking the back of the ticket or the website for the arena. i would think the answer is no. i know i couldn't take mine to the braves game. from what i have seen most places mention nothing with a lens over 6 inches. which is funny because you could take i high end p&S with more zoom than my 70-200.

edited because i said yes but i meant no

Bummer. I just called the Spurs and they said nothing professional. What is professional? Anything over 50mm... so no 70-200L. Guess I'll just enjoy the game...

This is stadium dependant. I checked the actual stadium web page to find out. The Pepsi center in denver allows it. The only restiction is that you or your equipment cannot interfere with folks around you.

Here is one I took last year:

I have done BB and Hockey. No troubles.

Oh well. Got to watch the Spurs kick but against Toronto from the 8th row. Most of the professional photographers had the Canon white lenses.

One thing I did notice is that they all had the remote trigger flash devices that controlled the same set of flashes in the rafters. The flashes I guess would provide enough additional fill light for all of their needs when they needed it.

I have heard about that. sounds very cool.

yeah... there where probably 8 to 10 photographers all using the same flash system (plus remote cameras). I guess there where probably 20+ flash lights in the rafters. Pretty cool.

Yup, Pocket Wizards. And everyone should have their own set of lights. Considering recycle times, it's impractical to be sharing.

Good you found out beforehand though. The same thing happened to me at Angel Stadium for a monster truck show. The tickets/web site only said "No Videocameras" so I brought my camera. At the gate a girl checked my bag and said "no professional lenses allowed inside." So I asked her "What does the stadium consider professional?" She clammed up and said "Um, like, anything over 3 inches." She had no real clue about "professional" cameras, but I guess she was just doing her job. So in the end I had to put my 70-200 back in the car in a dark parking lot, boy was I nervous during the show!
