Hi All
i am soon going to be in a postion where by i can purchase wither a Nikon D200 as my primary camera (D70 to remain as backup) Or a new lens (Sigma APO 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM )
What i am looking for is , do i upgrade the body or get the extra lens for the D70? Really unsure at this point.
Reason for upgrade is due to the fact that i am now taking a lot more Rugby shots that are getting into papers. I want to be ready and able to go to the bigger matches when i get my foot in the door.
cheers
D
Edit, The title should be "The Chicken or the Egg" don't know how to change it though? DOH!!

not an expert here but wouldn't the lens do you more good for the rugby shots rather than a camera without the 200mm lens. I wonder this not knowing what else is in your arsenal of equipment. Also wouldn't the 200mm fit the D200 since they are both Nikon?
Like I said I'm no expert so forgive me if I'm asking stupid questions.

The Sigma lens is pretty sweet, and I'd bet any limitations you're hitting shooting rugby are with the lens, not the camera. If that's correct, I'd go with the 70-200.

No such thing as a stupid question in my book,
I guess the Lens would be the correct purchase and get the new body during the summer?
seems the logical way to go i think?

how much is the sigma 70-200? i know it's dedicated f2.8 ... but i just bought the nikon 70-300mm VR and i'm getting some great shots with it.
for only $550, it'd be a good lens, with VR and give you that extra reach.
it won't be as fast as the f2.8, but i honestly don't see how it'd matter if you're doing daytime rugby shooting in full sunlight.
just a thought anyways.
btw, D200 gives you 5 fps which is double the D70. that's another consideration for sports shooting.

Dave,
At the moment i am taking daytime shots, this will lead to evening and matches under flood lights.
I need a good all rounder at present.

| I have tried sports shots with my nikon 70-200 VR and I'm a little disapointed, not the quality but the distance. I would think you need to get 300-400 to get anything that wasn't directly in front of you. |
