For now. :P Just wait'll you turn 30. By 40, you'll be as susceptible as the rest of us.

About two years ago, I weighed 208 pounds. My ideal weight is 175. Over the course of six months, I lost 30+ pounds by doing three things: cutting the overall amount of food I ate by about half; eliminating all junk food, such as chips and pop (but not pastry, which I like to make); and increasing vegetables to a minimum of five servings a day. It was tough at first, but easy later. I think you have to be prepared to fundamentally change your eating habits for the rest of your life in order to diet successfully.

so what you're all saying is...

...i shouldn't carry around a box of cereal and a bowl of milk and then count it as a "serving?"

THIS SUCKS! lol.

seriously, though, the tracking part is easy for me. the portion sizes are what's hard. like a plastic bottle of coke is "two" servings. puh-leeze. my favorite is the candy bar or snack bar that says it's "two" servings on the nutritional information. they're just out to get me.

when i did WW before, the only thing that saved me was the 0-point veggie soup. then i could have two bowls and feel like a pig and i wasn't killing my points.

i also found that i was putting tabasco on EVERYTHING because i wasn't craving food so much as i was craving flavor. once i started cooking more at home it made it a lot easier because the food was so much better than frozen meals.

ps -- the right brands of hot fudge have fiber in them. so if you're going to throw it all away one night, that makes things a little bit better.

i'm just sayin'...

But diet pop is "free" and if it has no caffeine, it counts as water.

I couldn't stand the 0-point soup, I made it once, ate one cup and poured the rest out. I ate a lot of Subway (with jalapenos) and BBQ Baked Lays chips. If you make a big salad and eat that first, you'll be a lot less hungry for your main course.

BTW, I figured out that 13 M&M's = 1 pt, so I'll eat my dinner and have 13 m&m's for my one pt dessert.

There's a great website called Hungry Girl that has some AMAZING WW recipes.. My favorite is her "Chew The Right Thing," where she takes a really popular restaurant or fast food dish and shows you how to make it healthy.. She took a 35 point bowl of chicken alfredo down to like 3 points! She also has a daily recipe email that's fantastic.. I highly recommend it.

side note: i went to college with that Jared dude and we ate at the exact same Subway almost every day. of course, no one knew him then. but he got all famous (well, he got "Snapple-lady" or "Mr. Whipple Don't Squeeze the Charmin" famous) and skinny, and i gained a ton of weight!

it's a conspiracy!

ok, fine. the extra cheese prolly didn't help.

I've been a WW member for 3 yrs. Lifetime now after reaching my goal. I've found a good filling snack is the Cheese Head light string cheese at 1pt. and the Laughing Cow Light Swiss (1 wedge) is one point. I've also found a 1 pt. bagel by Western Bagel Co "The Alternative Bagel". With a slice of low fat lunch meat, this makes a good 3pt. sandwich, just add fresh veggies instead of chips. It also helps fill the daily calcium requirements.

You have to be careful, even at Subway. Their "6 grams of fat" sandwiches and the baked chips are about the only things that fit well on a WW plan.

The nutritional info on those sandwiches is not including mayo and cheese or any other condiments. The light mayo adds one point and the cheese adds two points.

Front page on MSNBC today:
Some restaurant items exceed a full day's worth of calories.

What I find disturbing is the restaurant guy who says, "We're just giving the customers what they want." If the customers knew what they were eating, I'd bet that many of them would no longer want a 2000 calorie burger.

I think the Denny's Grand Slam breakfast comes in at something like 35 pts.

It may also be true that people don̢۪t want to think about calories when they head out for a meal. Johnson, of Ruby Tuesday, said his company experimented with offering nutritional information on its menus a couple of years ago, but pulled back after receiving feedback from customers that they didn̢۪t want it.

:( this makes me sad for people.

dassilem: nice work!

It's going to be a rough day for me since I had to cut down on snacks to accomodate dinner out and a much desired chocolate chip cookie later tonight, think happy thoughts for me!

i found some Kashi frozen meals at costco yesterday: 4 for $9.99. each meal only counts as 6 points, and it's not all sodium-laden like most frozen meals.

i work at home and don't often "brown bag" it, but i got some of these for quick on-the-go options.

Nice. I end up with frozen dinners a lot since I'm so busy. I've been meaning to get a Costco membership, maybe this is a good excuse!

Side note: I've been finding recently that Stouffer's regular frozen dinners are often well within acceptable point ranges despite not being labeled as diet or sold as Lean Cuisines. I had grilled lemon pepper chicken for lunch, and it was only 5 points. Probably loaded with salt, though.

Judi, they are the single best thing you can get to keep fit.

Mine cost £3 and keeps me so focused on walking.

I was surprised how little I actually walked in a day. I was even MORE surprised how easy it was to change little things that go well passed the 10,000 steps a day!

Go. Go buy one now!
