We can buy sweaters locally, mostly from samoyed hair. I'd love one and would buy one, but ONLY a locally-made, that I know is simply from groomed dogs.
But now you've got me thinking.... I haven't read anything about this yet (though I'll go searching now) but under some circumstances I could accept it.
For example;
In parts of the third world stray, unwanted and feral dogs are a big problem. There's no money for aiding people, let alone animals, so nothing is done. People suffer and the dogs suffer. Most of us agree that it would be humane to put many of these animals to sleep, and to rescue those that can be.
If an agency could be created and run using money raised from the sale of fur of euthanised animals it would reduce health and safety risks for the human population and end the suffering of many unwanted animals, also giving the rest a better chance.
But I don't know if it could be done without becoming corrupt. When one's surrounded by human starvation and suffering, raising as much money as possible by turning a shelter into a puppy-mill would be easily justified, if there were a market for it.
To me, the idea has some merit..... but the reality likely otherwise.
