I am taking pictures for the College I work for tomorrow night. Any suggestions. Also my camera is 9 megapixel, should I only use 6 megapixels as the pictures are going in local magazines and papers. Please help as I am nervous being that I have not been in photography that long.

Thanks Jeremy

Anyone else please help. What is the slowest shutter speed I can use to stop the action.

Thanks Rupypug

I wouldn't shoot any slower than 1/250th. As far as the mp that yo use really isn't going to be a problem. You're not going to see the diffrence. Just relax, take shots during warm-ups and position yourself in the best place to catch the action. DON'T use your flash, athletes don't like it, so you will have to push your ISO up. Good luck.

How well will the S9000 perform noise wise at 1600ISO? How fast is the AF system on the camera? Have you ever shot basketball before? I question these things because thats likely where you are going to be pushing the limits of your camera shooting Even division II ball.(I'm not sure what college your working for) Normally colleges wont allow flash unless its strobed and I'm going to assume you dont have strobes set up in the gym. If I were you I would go take some practice runs at shooting in the conditions you will face to get some timing and understand how your equipment will respond. I shot about 8 games before I felt really comfortable. Another thing to remember where you will be on the floor. Action thats closer to you will need faster shutter speeds to stop the action. Will also need faster focusing lens to keep up with the action. Good luck and post some examples when you get done.

Edit to add that I normally shoot high school ball at 1600ISO 1/400th and F2.8

Thanks for your response. I know my camera is not the best for sporting events but I am going to make do until I get another camera.

Thanks Jeremy
