Where they could put their job? By that I mean a very uncomfortable place.. I do websites for folks and businesses on budgets ( you know the ones that need a web presence but really can't pay big $$ till they make some) I have worked with non profits, daycares, stores, lawyers etc and never ever had one I wanted to tell off. The part that bugs me is, they are one of my lowest payers and expect more then my big money account (who by the way needs an update 4- 5 times a year) This company actually has developed needs for updates 4-5 times a week far outside the contracted. And they are being buttheads when I don't drop the world and deliver... Before you say quit....... a family member is involved. I just really needed to vent and hope I wasn't the only one who has ever wanted to shove a job... you know |

Heh i do sites for free for several people in my spare time. They pay actual cost but not my time cost. They have a problem ill open the domain transfer delete the folder on the server and say theres ur domain have a nice day.
But i can do that when its free.
Just make sure u negotiate ur contracts well enough to keep them from demanding more without a rewrite. |

I have the same problems. not with family members per se, but it seems that most people who I do a job for ALWAYS walk all over me. What they tell me is supposed to be a one hour job always ends up being, "lets just go to one more location real quick" and it ends up being 4 hours. I wish people could let me be nice. I always end up looking like the asshole when they don't pay, and I have to say "excuse me, could I have my money?" Then they start acting like I am the one with money problems. If it wasn't them with money problems, they would have paid immediately. Okay, now I have vented as well.

I've had plenty clients like that. You can't and don't always want to tell them to go jump, but I found that many times you have to sit them down, explain to them that if they require that kind of service, you will have to increase your fee and they would need to sign a new service contract with you as the services they now require are not part of the original contract. That could go one of three ways:
1. They pay up
2. They shut up
3. They fire you.

Family or not, if they are asking for things outside the original written contract, there need to be an addendum that covers the additional work and the charges for it. Just say, "Oh, that's beyond what we agreed to, I'll send over another quote for that work as an add-on to the original work order."
They'll either say, "Sure, send it over." or "Oh, well, never mind."
