I took most of the suggestions from the contest and also a few from some friends and applied them. Remember, I'm a digital newbie. Here is the results based on your feedback. Let me know if I'm on the right track.

FWIW, I like the one you entered better. I know some commented on it, but I especially liked the crop better - it was more interesting to me and brought an added focus to the tomato outside the crib. That was a really good shot, BTW - a great intro to DPC.

Scott, I actually like the original crop better too. It was the one I choose over a few crops for reasons like yours. I agree with the red tinge remark, and possibly that I should have arranged the little tomatoes with the green up (kids in cribs are always in a weird position though so I made them non uniformed). Thanks.

That was my thought as well when I read that comment! The non-uniformity seems fitting to me.
