It would appear that after 6 years my Kodak has died. The lens motor is jammed up, doesn't draw the lens in and won't focus. I'd think of fixing it, but I was ready for a new one anyway.
I'm no pro (if you look at what I've got on here you can see that yourself) but I'd like to get a decent mid-level fixed lens. I certainly can't afford an SLR. Completely out of the question. I'd like to cap it out at $400, but bang-for-the-buck is what I want.
Suggestions? :x:

Have you tried the buying guide at DPReview? You can put in what is important to you for recommendations.

canon s3 are a mighty fine camera ... produces some great images.

i know you said $400 is your limit. but you can get a nikon D40 for just over $500. it's a bit of a step up financially (about 20%) ... but DSLR is certainly not as "out of the question" as you think.

b&h has them for $540.

I still stand by the Sony DSC-F717. I don't think you can buy them new/retail any more, but you can easily pick up a nice set up on Ebay for your price range.

That is nice... I can find it as low as $250, but I found a Olympus SP510 UZ for $170. Is that as good of a deal as it seems? It's brand new, no refurb or anything.

i would definitly choose the S3 over the sp510. s3 as a way better IS more zoom, sharper images, and its a Canon :P
