As my win of a Sony DSC-F717 on Yahoo Auctions fell through, I tried again, and found a good auction on Ebay Australia of a Minolta 7hi. Hmm, interesting - OK, research. Positive feedback? Yep, over 140 items sold with positive comments. Payment options? Bank Deposit, or if not, Paymate. Good! Location? Local - only just over 1 hours drive from me! Great!

Pausing a DVD to check the last minute bidding, I snatched the winning bid with seconds to go! And a good price it was too - $700 cheaper than retail here in OZ.

Ooh, and the guy just emailed me back with an answer to a pickup question - and it's nearly midnight here! Such dedication.

Hopefully, I'll have my new camera within 10 days! Woohoo!

I'm a minolta 7hi user.

It's a great camera. There are a few drawbacks, though.

In reasonable light, it takes up to 2 seconds to focus in autofocus mode. This is the biggest problem I've found.

2ndly, it's colour and contrast saturation are low. I keep it at +1 on each all the time. This works well. But even so, I need to re-adjsust both in photoshop later.

Positive feedback? Lots.

It's so intuitive. I didn't read the manual for months. And when I did, I didn't learn that much more.

The picture quality is superb, providing you don't do landscapes or expect a wide range of exposure.

Straight from the camera, the colours are weak. But the capture is fine and can be extracted from the RAW converter.

As I said, the minolta dimage 7hi is a good tool. I love my little mistress...

Hey, it was worth interrupting the DVD for, it wasn;t that good a DVD and the auction was exciting :)

Can't wait to see what you can produce with this new toy, especially when you are doing great stuff with the 600MX already :)

I have no idea how you'll wait 10 days!
