it would be cool to see a panorama challenge with expert editing so you would be allowed using multiple photos for your entry.
what areyour thoughts? |

I like the idea, but not sure the 640x or even 720x formats would give us very good results.
Panos work best in larger formats.

Perhaps just call it a "photo stitch" challenge and bump the width to 800 pixels. That way squarish type photos can be entered which work better on this site. For example, something like this photo that they use to show off their software. I would imagine we could get some really creative shots something you wouldn't get at all in a straight and dry panorama challenge.

It would really need to be more like 1200 pixels. |

a pano challenge would be great, i think 800 pixels should be enough.
there were several discussions about a pano challenge going on last year, so imo the time should be come, now that we have the great opportunity with the expert rules... |

For 2 to 5 images stitched together, 800 wouldn't be too bad. For those of us that have stitched a lot more images together (I have some flower shots that are over 5 images stitched togehter and some scenics that are over 20) 800 would cause the image to be compressed a lot. It would be great to have a challenge on panoramas though.

Mike | It'd be cool to have a full 360 degree panorama challenge that would have at least 1024px (some people may have to scroll though). But even a 2-5 photos pano challenge would be cool |

Panoramas are near and dear to my heart. I'd love to see a pano challenge, but alas, I don't think even 800 wide is near enough to show any real detail. Panos depend on detail for their impact, almost by their nature, and I've found that whenever I've tried to present one at DPC portfolio size (800 wide) the results are totally underwhleming. I could have just taken a single shot with an ultra-wide lens and been done with it. I think that at 1024, or possibly 1200, you start to have enough detail to make it worthwhile. |

Yes 800 pixels is not enough. This photo I found in the panoramic gallery from Nuzzer would be impossible to judge fairly
I only mentioned the 800 pixels as part of an an alternate challenge idea called simply "photo stitch" and not panos per se. |

I just keep wondering how the photographers manage not to have their feet on the 360°/180° ones.
A pano challenge would be cool indeed, but I don't think there's a way to reasonably present them without some side coding :( |

We could do macro panoramas... this one is 5 shots stiched together:
And if we can't stretch them out, how about we wrap them up? 11 shots :D

but they don't have to be 360 deg
was roughly 270 & i think it's plenty for 720 pixels wide ... |

sounds like this could be a fun challenge.
some of mine:
but i do agree they'd have to be at least 800 px wide, maybe more |

How would you present a 360x180 (ie full spherical) pano? Not everyone is used to viewing equirectangular images. Would DPC add a viewer just for the challenge? |

I think a pano challenge would be fun. Can we wait until I am going to Yosemite to start the challenge? 8} |
