forgive me...i've never used PHP but am starting to learn it with a new website i am putting up.

is there a module that one can "install" on their webserver so that a thumbnail is automatically generated when a photo is uploaded? i know this site does this for us, but i didn't know if this was a custom tool or freely available code...

any advice is appreciated. thanks!

Try this: Creating Thumbnails using GD Library.

There are also a number of free image gallery programs written in PHP ... check here: Hotscripts.com

This site uses ImageMagick for resizing and jpegtran for lossless optimization.
