HERE IS A HUGE DEAL FROM GARY FONG!
Lightsphere Secret Deal
1 clouded lightsphere (with inverted dome)
1 clear lightsphere (with inverted dome)
1 amber dome
1 chrome dome
1 Tutorial DVD
$129!!! Enter "february" in the coupon code and save an extra 10%
ETA: I am pissed I spent $50 already on the cloud. I am spending $60+ more for the chromedome and amberdome and could have had all this and a clear lightsphere for a few more bucks!
Anyway I hope someone gets a steal of a deal out of this! |
^ seems like a good deal ... basically you get the ChromeDome for "free".
But then I start thinking, my StoFen OmniBounce cost me $12.50 ... this package would be $125 shipped ... is it worth 10x as much? I'm aware of the benefits of the Lightsphere, but dang...

I was also looking at getting the gary fong dome.
Here is a cool idea that I just started to play with and it's really cheap. :) |

Yeah ... it can't get much cheaper than that ... I am gonna grab some scissors right now and experiment with that!

It seems to work ok, but I still think it would be nice to have the gary fong one in places with no ceiling to use for bounce.
Seems like there is no end to the spending for this hobby. :) |

Goto //www.abetterbouncecard.com
You will get better flash pictures than Fong's contraption and it will only cost you about 5 cents.

Sorry, but I strongly disagree. I've tried and used most every bounce card and modifier out there and no matter how you work it, a card will still not give the diffused directional light that a LightSphere gives. A card is much more effective than no modifier at all, but not superior to the LS, or the Wescott mini-softbox (though I find that one too huge & clunky for daily use).

I don't have the pro studio or wedding experience, but I just watched the video, and as someone who has the Lightsphere reporter, it was intriguing to me because I find the lightsphere a bit klutzy to use (it unbalances my lighter camera and flash). I also think it doesn't throw enough light forward (I posted some pics once comparing it to the Omnibounce and the Omnibounce card (which is straight plastic rather than going over the lens, and it had the least light forward).
Maybe with a better flash--I have the Canon 420EX, and it's not as powerful as the more professional units.
The method he describes with foam paper can also be rolled down rather than removed when you don't want to use it. It would be interesting to post a set of objective tests showing all the alternatives.
That being said, I just went to his website to look at samples, and he sure isn't "giving" those away ;) |

I have Lumiquest 20/80 bounce and a Lumiquest Softbox for my Sb600s. Which I still use because I am not having the best of luck figuring out my new light kit. I like the 20/80 because it came with 3 reflectors that you can interchange, Silver, Gold and Solid White, Or you can leave the reflector out and send 80% of the light to a wall or ceiling. They are a bit bulky but look professional and work quite well.
