Ditto ... brussel sprouts suck!

Brussels Sprouts are sick, sick, sick. Why are these things even allowed to exist? I also HATE them! When I was young, my Dad made me eat an entire one of these disgusting balls of vile putridness. I stuffed the entire thing in my mouth and started chewing and gagging. I ran outside and barfed. Maybe HATE is too gentle a word for how I feel about Brussels Sprouts.

"disgusting balls of vile putridness"! Wow. I got to remember that. Really funny :)))))

The right to bear arms is guaranteed in the constitution... while it doesn't guarantee the right to bare ass (which might be covered under the pursuit of happiness) :-)

I hate getting old - more specifically, I loathe hot flashes. Really loathe them.
I hate challenges that are hard! :-)

On the other hand, a picture of someone having a hot flash might be quite interesting .....

You know, I believe I detect a bit of hate here. You really should enter this challenge Superdave. You don't have to vote or even view the results to enter. I bet you could come up with a neat concept showing hate toward western attitudes, at least as you interpret them.
02/14/2007 11:55:40 AM · #56
As much as I hate guns and drugs I would still be very interested in seeing peoples interpretations - It has been said before but treat it like a movie - There are plenty out there with both and all you have to do is turn off - Maybe the nudity censor should be lifted. Porn is not allowed so the board would DQ and remove it if it was anything like that. Maybe rather than more censorship we need a bit more freedom - Then we have the choice of exactly what we want to see and vote on - Maybe a way round it could be like the dvd you buy at the shop - Before you vote the challenge results could come up with "This challenge contains, nudity, violence, drug use" etc - So just like the movie you don't have to watch and vote if you don't want to??

Nudes aren't censored. There is a filter in place so that those not signed in or those who choose to select the option do not automatically see nudes in the thumbnail AFTER THE CHALLENGE. They still appear for voting the same way any other image does. They are still viewable if clicked on.

LOL ... i shan't enter this challenge because, as i already said, the world has enough hate.

i accept that some images have genuine purpose and merit (someone gave an example of holocaust photos). such photos can have educational value.

but here? some entries are just going to be gratuitous ... or people will post for the shock value.

so, i shan't enter the challenge. i won't be viewing or voting either.

as for my hatred? no ... perhaps you were being sarcastic (i have trouble picking internet sarcasm) but i don't hate western culture. i am western, and i have to admit that there are many things about my own culture that embarrass me very much. the right to bear arms, but not bear bums (as fotomann so elequently put it) is one of my favourites.

mk ... then how's about we use the same filter for guns, drugs (including alcohol and cigarettes), and violence? or perhaps a filter for each one specifically.

aren't these things adult content? :)

And cars, those are only for adults, too, right? And jobs.

Perhaps you should vote because if you don't not all voices will be heard and the "shock value" entries won't hear you.

I'll be putting my voice out there - and I agree on one point of your censorship...that being; why is it that we do tolerate so much violence? Is it because it sells movies and video games?

As for images that push my "voice" pertaining to violence, etc... they are suicide depicitions, guns to the head, hangings, and snorting coke or shooting up drugs. All JMO of course. :D

Only grown men should have the former and only women should have the latter :-P

Nice logic call though :-)

Hmm. I was just out shovelling in 30 degree weather in a t-shirt and jeans ... and sweating. Not sure it would make a really interesting image, though. I just looked mildly eccentric ;-) Perhaps I should try again drinking an Irish coffee (to get both alocohol and caffeine triggers added to the mix). In a colorful mug, to offset all the white of the snow and complement my soon-ro-be-red face. Or maybe I'll just have the coffee, forget the shovelling, and keep my hot flashes to myself ;-)

i can see the 'hate' challenge stretching the terms of use! ;)

In this case I believe you actually have a duty to view every entry in the Hate challenge. Who else will be able to make sure no depictions of guns or violence will be in competition. You must view them all and report to SC each one you believe is over the top. I'm hoping I don't see the recreation of the Taliban executing some woman because she didn't wear the right clothing, or had the audacity to think she could work outside the home. I'm also hoping I don't see a recreation of Jerry Fallwell telling some poor soul they're dying of cancer because God hates their lifestyle choices. But I probably will see such things in this challenge. That's why this challenge is one of the best I've seen offered since I became a member. The winner will have to navigate a minefield of hot-button issues of members all over the world to find a concept of hate that will garner many high votes. The right concept is out there. Because we all hate.

I agree. The photographer that does a good job of depicting a "universal hate" will do quite well.

It IS possible to enter an appealing, non-violent image here. I hate pessimism. ;-)

I hate Scalvert's new icon. It's too freakin' pink.

:-) (Just kiddin'! Well, not about the too pink part...)

I've got an idea, let's vote on every possible circumstance that might possibly offend someone - everything from abortion to cigarettes - and then let's censor it all. After all, we can't trust each other to make rational decisions about the images seen in a public forum. And we most certainly can't trust younger audiences to view anything provocative because they will eventually throw everything decent that they've ever learnt out the window in favor of everything indecent portrayed by provocative imagery and commentary.

By doing this, we can turn the moaning pieties of a few into a tyranny of the minority, hijacking the rights of many, because, rehashing what I stated above: not everyone can be trusted to make the correct interpretation of a work; therefore, no one should have the opportunity to do so. Right?

[Omissions mine]

'Consumption', of course contributes nothing to humanity, culture and the way we think and feel. When it comes to images it's more akin to 'using', gratuitous ingestion, that sort of thing.

And nudity does not equal pornography. One could probably make a good argument that the genre of nude photography is antonymous to pornography, and that even erotica may anti-polarize an invitation to 'consume' images that fall into this category.

Nudes, instead, contribute 'humanity', IMHO. To censor or berate it is to rob us of the kind of humanity that is 'learned' and, at its best, does much to 'cultivate' a potentially sterile (unfeeling) and barbaric landscape.

OK, violence is not hate, but hate can lead to violence. So having a Hate challance is not a bad idea, try to show hate in a positive way. I hate is a negative emotion butdose not mean it should not exist. There are times that hate is needed for survival or is even justified. Only the close minded do not see posibilities where hate is as important as love, not to mention the world has both hate and love and both deserve to be reprensented in art. I really think you should enter this if you feel so strongly aginst hate, open your mind, it is easy to shoot for something you like, shoot for something you dont like is a challenge.

As for censoring, The nudes arent censored only blocked in thum on the inital page, I like this as I go to DPC at work and if some one saw the nudes I could get in trouble here. But the alchol tabbaco ect..thats just silly to me. Just because it is adult use only does not mean it is adult content. To go along with previous comments then we should ban pics of houses or containing houses because a minor can't own one.

One of the reasons why I won't be entering either this or the love challenge is because so many people will be imposing their own rules on it, and deciding that x and y don't meet the challenge. This sort of thread just adds to that sort of unofficial rule creation I think.
