Another RAW (not at all quick though) trick for CS and CS2
Get this script and follow the instructions

//fors.net/chromoholics/download/

I used this (and a Gretag-MacBeth digital file I calibrated from instructions from //www.creativepro.com/story/feature/21351.html and the file at //www.creativepro.com/jump?jump=www.colorremedies.com/realworldcolor/downloads.html) script to calibrate to my camera.
After doing the instructions and getting all the numbers AS CLOSE as possible on the color plates, I took a shot of it off of my hardware calibrated monitor with the camera set on the Flash WB mode (what I shoot in most), then fed the results into ACR and saved it as my Camera Default. The results for the WB, etc. have been working very well for me since, with just minor tweaking of the Exposure and Shadows. Contrast, etc. usually fixed in PS and not ACR.

After running the script for this (which takes a long time) there will be a window open with what looks like very little info. You may have to make the Canvas larger (longer) to see all the info you will need to place in ACR. Figured this out the second time I ran it, darnit!

From the same site, here's a chapter from a decent book on RAW conversion...

Converting & Delivering RAW: Chapter Ten

I, personally, have this book and would highly recommend it:
