Hi everyone!

Just wanted to thank everyone for their advice for helping me with my opening nite last Friday at a small local art exhibit that I entered a couple of photographs in. Although I was really, really nervous, I think it went really well. I met two other photographers right off the bat, and they were very interested in learning about digital photography as they hadn't tried digital yet. I was also very interested to learn how they took their shots and how them developed them also. I must say though, that the people who came through (about 200 or so from the local area) were the most intrigued by the macro shots. While they commented positively on the more traditional shots (which is what I went with), the ooohs and ahhhs were definately on the macro shots. Just an observation. Anyway, I made it through, and would definately think about doing something like this again. The best part is it forced me to make business cards, and now I find it much easier to tell people what I'm doing and handing them a card. Well, thanks again to everyone - I am very shy and think I would have definately chickened out of it without your encouragement - and I'm glad I didn't miss it!!!!!

Sounds like you had a great time. I can understand the nervousness; we all have it to one degree or another. What is important is you did it and it was a positive experience. Thanks for sharing the event with us.

Sounds like you had fun and make some good contacts. Good for you. If I even move out of this 1 horse town, I'd like to participate in something like that.

Jacko - I live in such a town, 50 miles from the state capitol, a 2-horse town - but our camera club gets a couple of exhibitions a year. Most recently, at an investment firm, who threw a wine & cheese reception as an excuse to invite some of their current and prospective clients. A couple of our experienced members made sure we all were prepared, and it was a hit - several photos sold, and the firm was very pleased.

My photos at the exhibit:

Moral of story - join a club, start a club, and look for classy service sector firms who want to bring clients in for "freebies".

Hi Everyone!

Please...accept my sincere apologies for not posting replies sooner - I have been sick with some kind of "flu bug" the past few days and have not been online. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to post.

To answer your question fadoi, I did go with my original two selections, (see below if I do it right) even though you gave me some very good advice otherwise. I tried at last minute to have some prints of my flower pictures done at a local shop, but it took 'til the end of the day and they did not come out like I had expected the colors to come out and was too late to have redone. usually I have prints done at dpc and they come out the same colors as I see them on my monitor - so I am not really sure what happened.

Lessons learned: 1. If you are not 100% sure of picture don't enter it (not happy with the mountain picture but I figured they wouldn't like me taking it down during the show!) - the other one looked really good the way I had framed it - it really made it pop and it got few very positive comments. 2. Listen to your fellow dpcers!!! 3. If you don't have time to get a photograph the way you like it, don't enter it. 4. "local favorites" - like the mountain picture - are probably going to be well represented at a local show (I actually heard someone say "how many times are they going to have that mountain in the shows - I love it but have seen enought of it already!").

Again, thanks to all of you for all your input, advice and comments!

BJ
