Feedback would be greatly appreciated. This was from about a half hour ago.

it's good, perhaps need some D&B to bring the subject out a little more?

Aww she is most definetly cute! I like both versions of the photo. The orginal is a more softer photo and the processed one is amazing. I like how much the dog stands out in the processed one. Good use of black on black. I think I would crop off the bottom of it some, but that is just my opinion...

Love the pup's expression as well. Good Job :)

What did you use to do the processing? I'm new to photography and I'd like to know what program you use.

BTW...SOOOO CUTE!!!

I wish I could have a dog. :(

Excellent - you've done really well to draw out that detail.

I actually used Photoshop CS3 to do the processing.

It went as follows:

Convert to TIFF from Camera RAW
Levels
Curves; I started with the CS3 "Strong Contrast" preset and then brought in a little more contrast into the darks and lights.
I then used the brand new Black and White adjustment in CS3. I always use Custom for this because you click anywhere on the image and it turns into a scrubby slider which gives you selective control over the tonality of the selection. I lowered yellows and rasied some reds for this B&W adjustment.
I then made a new layer where I painted the background area with a black brush at different opacities. This gave me the "burn effect" and I lowered the opacity of the layer to around 40%.
Using the black that I had painted in as a layer mask, I made a new layer to apply about an 8 pixel gaussien blur to the background.
From there I did one more layers adjustment using the black eyedrop to get some more dark tones, resized, and uploaded.

Thanks for the great feedback everyone!

It looks dark in the thumbnail, but not so bad when I click on it. I like the detail from the cross lighting in the hair and the high contrast. The eyes could use more light though to liven them up.

Cute dog.
