"Great Job"

Remember that one? It was a comment posted by a new user at the time on many challenge entry photos. A fairly large ruckus broke out (just curious, and Stopped Motion Scores HERE!) because it was considered "cut and paste" and "comment inflation", or "altering stats".

It appears that many have received the simple comment of "DNMC" on their challenge entries for 'Fruits and Veggies II' (Show me your Fruit/Vegi scores now!). Would this not be considered altering statistics, or comment inflation?

I wonder if we'll see some adjustments in our comments rec'd numbers? Based on prior action taken in the DPC community I think we should.

Side note - personally I rec'd the DNMC comment and found it humorous. But hey, rules are rules and if a precedent is going to be set on previous "cut and paste" commenters...

a lot of people seem to be miffed about getting DNMC remarks. there's talk of it in the fruit & vege scores thread.

i've not received one ... but the rules are fairly simple. so as long as there's a piece of fruit or a vegetable in the shot somewhere, i don't see why it'd DNMC.

Ummm, let's please don't activate the Comment Cops again. They seem to assume the same powers as the DNMC Nazis. It really doesn't matter to me which one is right, they just seem to fight a lot, and I really wish we didn't feel so free to complain about comments. Good grief, I would just like to GET SOME!

Dang. Already.

Sorry, Barry, I'm not with you on this one. :)

Hey nards - you may have missed my point, if not - that's cool too.

My point wasn't to complain about the DNMC comment. As I stated, I found it quite funny actually. I really did laugh out loud when I read it.

The point of this thread is that I'm wondering if the single word "DNMC" comment, that has shown up obviously for many people, will be removed like "Great Job" was.

Is it now "OK" to post the same comment on many challenge entries?
Is it now "OK" to cut and paste the same comment multiple times?
Are the "rules/policies" being applied fairly and consistently?

I find it interesting that someone earlier that made a "happy" comment in saying "Great Job" was derided and punished, yet "DNMC" is ok?

Food for thought...

Three quick points:

1. Site Council is aware of this and actively pursuing it.

2. The cut/paste situation referenced above was, if I recall colrrectly, done to get into an invitational challenge. This is not to say that the comments won't be removed, but the context is somewhat different.

3. Please remember that the forum rules disallow calling out comments or commenters in a hostile manner, as well as publicly accusing others of rule violations. The most productive way to handle situations like this is to report the comments in question, or to go to the Contact page and open a Site Council inquiry.

If recent challenges are any indication, I believe repeat comments like this are no longer removed.

I think I understand, and I don't mean to come across wrong. I just personally don't see a darn thing wrong with cutting and pasting comments, as long as they are considered applicable by the commenter. I think that's a technicality and it's kind of a form of censorship to say "you can't say this on my photo just because you've said it on ten others." Or a hundred others, or whatever.

I just get REALLY frustrated by complaints about comments. We've Comment Copped most of the comments out of existence. My pitiful entries used to regularly get 15-25 comments. Now I'm lucky to get 2, with a similar score. I'm not concerned about whether somebody else recieved the same comment, I just like to get feedback, and I don't like to do things - or see things done - that discourage commenting. Policing this DNMC comment out is just wrong, IMHO, just like the previous example probably was. I think SC needs to take a VERY hands-off approach to comment moderation unless the comment is in violation of TOS. I see nothing "in violation" about cutting and pasting. I don't see a big deal, either, about supposed "comment inflation" except in the case of the "invitation only" challenges which were based on comments, and I don't think those are good challenges to have, personally.

Just my thoughts. No breakdown of team spirit, just different viewpoints :)

Ok - Good to know.

Took place in August last year - I don't believe there has been an Invitational since then (could be wrong, but don't remember one).

No names have been mentioned here at all. As for breaking rules, I don't believe any rules were broken the last time this came up, nor am I saying that it has this time. Actually, it would be good to see where any rules pertaining to comment "cut and pasting" is available for reading here on DPChallenge.

I find the community reaction interesting between a good "Great Job" comment and a bad "DNMC" one.
