running macbook os x tiger.

I created an archive of a folder of pics, but when I tried to upload it, it said invalid file type. The archive file I made is a .zip. Why isn't it working? I feel like a dummy. :(

Yes, and no. I mean MB. I've uploaded .zip folders before and I have 1000 MB storage.

There are 207 photos.

Wow, that's huge.

I know the limit on print file uploads is 16 MB. I don't know whether that applies to portfolio uploads as well.

If nothing else, there could be a PHP script timeout kicking in. It could then be trying to unzip an incomplete and therefore corrupt ZIP.

I'm speculating, but you might want to shoot a ticket to Langdon (select DPChallenge - Administrative Inquiry on the contact page). He'll know what the code is doing, what limits might be kicking in, and what he can reasonably change.

Yeah the file is huge for here and as far as portfolios are they limited to a total of 50mb?

I have 1000 MB storage. THanks Terry, I'll send a ticket.

When I try to upload it, it tells me that it's an invalid format type.

He probably paid extra for additional portfolio storage space. It's possible to get up to 1000 MB.

I just checked and the upload file size is unlimited. Are you sure you're selecting "upload a new image" and not "upload a new print"? Uploading a print does not support ZIP files.

Do you remember, or can you find in your history, the exact text of the error?

"This is an invalid file format for a portfolio item. We are currently only accepting gif, jpg, and png."

Stupid question, but is the file named with ".zip" on the end of it?

It looks like you have a lot of images in your portfolio currently... if while processing the zip file, the script comes across an unsupported file (if you don't have ".jpg" on a file in the zip, or have a ".txt" file in there) it will abort abruptly. Maybe that's happening?

Currently you can only add it to your account when you renew your membership (lame I know).

Langdon -- Yes, the file ends in .zip
Can the filename of the .zip folder affect anything? I have a dash (-) in my filename.
There are only .jpg files in my .zip folder. Man, I'm stumped. Can it be because the .zip folder is too large?

I renamed and re-archived (.zip) the folder that I want to add; and still no dice. Any ideas Langdon?

Yea, the hyphen shouldn't matter. I changed a few error messages if you can try again and paste the new one.

How are you able to upload 252mb so fast? :)
02/12/2007 01:10:15 AM · #22
Alright, this is what I got now:

original_filename -- This is an invalid file format for a portfolio item (F1). We are currently only accepting gif, jpg, and png.

I don't know how long uploading 250MB will take, I haven't gotten that far yet. I'll just let my computer crunch on it when it's time to add my pics. Probably take a little while. I have a folder of pics I took this weekend, and I like them all (well, mostly).

Ack, that was supposed to be $original_filename. :)

Wasting 5 more of your minutes, try once more. This time it should tell you the culprit file.

Hey, no biggie, I'm just chillin at my apartment watching some show about Maximum security prisons.

Ok, this is my new error:

"-- This is an invalid file format for a portfolio item (F1). We are currently only accepting gif, jpg, and png."
02/12/2007 01:23:36 AM · #25
Wow, what browser are you using?

You wouldn't run into that error message unless the file finished uploading. And for some reason the script thinks you're uploading a file with no file name... I'm wondering if there's some browser limitation kicking in and ignoring your large file? See if you can zip up 3-5 files and upload them?
