Ok, here is what I want to do. I have a bowling website (//www.allBowling.com) and I want to start ranking the bowlers based on their performance. A power ranking thing.... to determine who is the best. This is just for the PBA Regional bowlers in the southwest.

There is a point system the PBA uses, based on your performance you get x amount of points. But there has got to be a better way to rank bowlers. People want to know who is the best.

So, where can I look to create a ranking formula of some sort?

Any help/guidance is appreciated.

I'm not sure if I understand the complexity, but wouldn't a simple average score suffice?

If you are looking for ranking based on winner/looser, then use this:

1) If a player beats a higher ranked player, his new rank is the average of the two player. (ex. if 5th ranked plays 15th ranked and looses, 15th ranked becomes 10th ranked (15+5)/2.)

2) If you don't play a lower ranked player within 2 weeks, you drop down a spot. People in the top 10 are exempt from this rule.

3) A player in the top 10 can not turn down a challenge from another player in the top 10.

4) A player can not be challenged more than once a week.

Add variations or nuances as needed.

The only system guaranteed to work is one where ranking points are awarded in proportion to their contributions to the bamaster_Beer-and-Camera_Fund.com (MC/Visa/AMEX/Discover/Cash accepted)

Why don't you have each of them photograph a bowling ball and rank them according to how close they came to actually photographing a bowling ball, according to your interpretation?
