I've been having a problem with my D200 for the longest time. It usually happens when i'm at events, shooting pictures one after the other.
What happens is that I focus on a subject and take a picture. Then i change distance slightly, so i try refocusing on subject to retake a picture, but my focus stays locked at the last distance. If i take the picture, the subject is then blurry.
I usually fix the problem by just turning the camera ON and OFF very quickly, and the focusing ability resumes immediately. Or, if i keep trying to focus, it will eventually unlock and refocus.
This is a big problem when photographing events because sometimes it's too loud to listen to the focus beep and i end up with blurry subjects.
Any clue why this is happening? It's been happening for a while now. What should i do? |

| Thats odd for sure, Have you tried shooting with continuous focus mode, the C on the front of the camera. This is what I use for sports events with the 50 mm 1.8 which isn't known as a fast focusing lens. Is it with one lens or several. A few times my 50 mm wouldn't focus right so I would unhook the lens and put it back on and it would work. But what was actually happening was that the aperture lock had come loose and when I put it back on it would relock and work. I took a few times of freaking out and doing this after a few days until I realized the problem. |

Acutally, this happens with both my 17-55mm 2.8 and my 70-200mm 2.8 lens. so it's not a problem wiht the lens.
Also, i've had that mechanical problem you speak of; but it's not that, because the problem is resolved by switching the camera on and off quickly.

are you using the af-lock button ?
try switching to using the button exclusively for a while +see if the problems persist

Ya, i guess i could try that, the problem is that this only seems to happen when i'm at an important event (Murphy's Law)
My photography is usually studio stuff where i don't snap pictures constantly, so it never happens then.
I'd like to resolve this issue before the next event i shoot... I'm currently in touch with Nikon about this problem |
