I've found a used Sigma 90mm 2.8 Macro for Canon EOS. I don't see it in the DPC lens listings (i've put in a ticket.)
I went ahead and bought it because it looked pretty solid and was dirt cheap. I can return it if I don't like it.
Anyone have any experience with this lens?

I don't own it. I've seen one on ebay where the owner says it works great on his film camera, but admits that only works on his Rebel sometimes - and other times he gets err99 and/or the shutter won't work.
I hope it works for you. I'm dying to get a macro but am thinking I'll hold out for the sigma 70mm for canon.
Good luck :) |

Any reason you don't want the Canon EF-S 60mm? I can heartily recommend it!

Just got a reply from Sigma. This lens will not work on the 20D and there is no fix for it. :-(
Thought I had a gem here.

Dang, sorry to hear that, scarbrd.
Splidge - honestly if the price were right I'd get any one of the these: Canon 60mm, Canon 100mm, Sigma 105mm, Tamron 90mm... It's just that I've recently been feeling wooed by the reviews of the new Sigma 70mm saying it's super-duper sharp. But thanks for the recommendation - if I get past window shopping I will certainly keep it in mind!

| Is it just the 20D that it wont work on or will it not work on any of the DSLR's? If it would work on the 300D I would offer to buy it from you. What did you pay for it? |

I don't think it works on any of the modern EOS digitals, although skewsme says it worked on the original Rebel "sometimes". I wouldn't call that a ringing endorsement.
I paid $125.00 plus tax for it.

update:
I returned the Sigma 90mm Macro and lo and behold they had a Canon 100mm 2.8 (non-USM) macro in the used case.
Picked it up for $300. Sweet deal.

It will be tough to get to the top of this lens page!

Nice one!
I was wavering over getting the 60mm EF-S (and considering the 100mm as well). Basically in a scenario similar to yours I walked into the camera shop thinking "I'll just investigate prices etc." and they had a "used" one (in practically brand new condition) on their shelf. They had a used 17-55 f/2.8 EF-S as well :(. That was an expensive visit (which basically left me committed to keeping crop bodies for a while!).
But I love the 60mm, it's ridiculously sharp, although the low DoF is a real pain...
I've heard great things about the 100mm too, I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
