everything's been said, speed-clickers will get annoyed soon anyway, there's no reason why not to vote quick on blurry family pics, a good picture won't let you vote fast. |

While I don't think I support the idea of a voting delay, I do very much disagree with this statement. The most obvious examples I can think of are photos where meeting the challenge is less "in your face" or not what the voter expects. Sometimes challenges are very straightforward, but it's possible with other challenges to meet the challenge in a very subtle way. And I think that a lot of times people would not spend the time looking for how it meets the challenge. And the photo can be a good one while still getting voted very low because of people not seeing what is really there. Granted, I think a lot of people DO take the time to look for stuff that is less than perfectly obvious; I just don't think a blanket statement of "a good picture won't let you vote fast" is completely accurate. |

what do you think about an idea not to vote in challenges in which you participate yourself? it think it would be fair.

One thing that I do wish was implemented though, would be pre-caching of the next image to be voted on. So then you don't have to watch the image load once you've voted. This is pretty simple to implement and would help the dial-up users even more. |
Yes, I too like that idea. |
Me three. Doesn't Firefox have some options in that regard? |

I think it's a terrible idea. I WANT to vote in the challenges I enter, and no, I don't vote others down, either. If I'm going to spend the time looking at my competition, it's only fair that I get to vote on them.
Why the heck are we so obsessed with doing things which LIMIT voter participation or slow them down or make comments required or whatever???? Dangit, folks, this site is CENTERED on voting!!!!!!!!!!! Let's make it EASY to vote, and enjoy the privilege! |

Forced delays of any sort are annoying and would reduce participation. The power to slow down speedy voters rests with the photographer. Offer a compelling image and the voters will stop to look at it. You can still be subtle IMO, but to be effective the photo should be technically sound and use composition to guide the viewer's eye to the punchline. I think that causes many people to think, "Well, this is a photographer who obviously knows what he's doing, so maybe I'm missing something here..." |

Am I beating a dead horse to respond to this month-old thread? I'm new here, and still developing a personal standard for voting. I admit my first run through is speedy, but it's only an initial sort. After I've sorted the photos into groups of 1-10 based on first impressions, I examine them again (and again), at varying speeds, and tweak my votes. Sometimes it's more than a tweak: in the "Langdon's Birthday" challenge, I gave one photo a 9 that I'd originally given a 5.
So far, this method works well for me, but I wouldn't be able to work this way if these timing restrictions were imposed.

Larry, I am witn you entirely. Depending upon how enthused I am with a challenge, I often vote in a similar way to you. Horses for courses, I guess. |

You might not want to do that Bubba. The longer I look at a photo, the more I generally find wrong with it. If I look real quick almost any image is a 10!

I didn't realise that you could change your once you made it. I'm new and have only voted on one challenge. I have to go to work soon so dont have time to check out how this is done so could someone tell me how to change your votes so I will know when I go on line later and start voting. |

Just go back to the thumbnail page and you will see the ones you voted on, click on the one you wish to change and change it. |
