The iTunes program is downloadable from the iTunes site for Windows or Mac, that's all. Does anybody know if the program has been ported to Linux? Ubuntu or Suse in particular.

Doh, I found my answer at the Ubuntu site, there's an iPodHowto.

Looks like I can use Banshee, Amarok, or gtkpod instead of iTunes.

Does anybody else here use any of these? Recommendations?

Slippy, it will take some research, but you may be able to get the Windoze version to run in Ubuntu with Wine.

Not exactly iTunes did preview a linux port under Cross Over Office. iTunes is in bold red letters on WINE's DOES NOT RUN AT ALL list.

iTune's does not run on windows 95/98/ME for a reason that same reason is why it doesnt run on linux and why its one of the most desired ports. Just goto wine's website theyll tell u why its not gonna work!

On the other end i do believe there was a way to load an ipod from SUSE pretty easoly but i dont have an ipod neevr actually tried it.

Listen //www.listen-project.org/
Banshee //banshee-project.org/Main_Page

try them out.

For other software equivalents, this site has a nice list. Good place to start.
