I am so upset right now. Tonight is my son's 5th birthday party. We got all sorts of footage. As the party was ending, my husband knocked the camcorder off the counter!

It is a camcorder that uses the small DVD-RW's. The camcorder will not read the disc. My computer is saying it is zero bytes. I can see the write lines on it. I cannot even get the camcorder to finalize the DVD.

I tried putting a blank DVD-RW into the player and it seems to work just fine. It had me format it and everything.

The model is a Sony DCR- DVD105. Anyone know anything that could help me? I really hope I haven't lost all the footage.

I want to cry. It was so important to me to have this birthday on DVD.

Jenn

P.S. When I try to play the DVD in the camcorder, it says "Disc Error, unsupported format."

It sounds like it wasn't able to close the disc session before being dropped, don't worry, all the data should still be on there and it is just a matter of finding a piece of software that will be able to pull off the raw data.

I don't know of any myself, but a quick search of google for DVD recover brought up this link: //www.diskinternals.com/cd-dvd-recovery/

The software looks resonably cheap, but i can't comment on whether it will do the job - there is a free evaluation copy that should be able to tell you whether the full version will do the job.

I'm also sure that there will be some free utility floating around somewhere

[ edit ] It occured to me that CD/DVD burning software may be able to close the session if this is the problem...This may work, but will be altering the disc so I can't predict the effect, someone else may know better - try putting the disc in the computer and see what the burning software says about the disc with regards to session info

Thank you.

I just want to be sure I don't accidently damage anything that is on there as it is an RW disc. When he dropped it, we opened the cover and the DVD had popped out.

This totally sucks.

I wonder if I can take it anywhere to have someone who won't screw it up fix it for me...LOL

Might have to repurchase the same model or go to a store where they have the same camera and finish the session.

That is what my husband suggested as well. I am reluctant since my camcorder will take a new disc just fine and seems to be working totally fine. Seems like it might be a disc problem. I'll try it though.
