I've been doing an experiment, sort of. Posting the same photo (non challenge) in my portfolio here and at pbase. I've been getting way, way more views and comments at pbase than I am here on my portfolio shots. Putting about the same amount of effort in both sites.....hmmm....
Dpchallenge is still the best (and my favorite) so I guess it's time to enter some challenges again and do more commenting.

You can ignore this post if you want....just thinking. Watch out!

Drawing attention to newly posted portfolio images usually generates more views.

In starting this thread may get your images more attention.

I don't always have the time to go looking in users profile pages and dig through, and for the most part, I visit the Browse Recently Commented On Photographs page to see what's new / what's been commented on by others. Problem is, since the 30-Day side challenges have been going on, that page gets flooded with mostly those, burying members pics that weren't a part of them, and get out of sight too quick.
I've recommended a separate Browse Recently Commented On Photographs page be set up for just those side challenges, but was swept under the rug it seems.

also commenting helps as people will check out your portfolio then.

That's what I've done in the past...ask for input under the individual photo section. I feel like what I submit should stand on it's own without me begging. If it doesn't jump out at someone, it must suck.
Then I tell myself that the site has grown so large that most photos just roll right off the front browse page too fast to even notice.
I'm understanding the comment thing....you've got to give in order to receive for the most part. Okay, I'm done. Man, I'm thinking too much. Gosh I hate winter.
