Once again I entered a picture of Finnegan. I thought it was a better shot. It didn't have his "demon eyes" like the last one. He was behaving that day so that he wasn't flying all over. The light was better since I was outside during the day. And yet I still didn't even get a 5 for this image:
I didn't get any comments indicating that it didn't meet the challenge criteria. I had one comment say they didn't like the lighting on his head but it sounded more like a preference than an actual error being pointed out.
I didn't think this was going to ribbon but I also didn't think this was going to be below 5. What made this shot below average for the Shallow DOF challenge?

Unfortunately, some people will vote down pets just because. The composition is a bit lacking in this though, and the DOF really isn't all that shallow. It's shown in the background being blurred, but that is what hurts the composition. The blown highlight is another feature that will get you a knee-jerk markdown.
