I used to work for MDC and liked all the people there. I check their job site every once and a while to find a perfect opening...here it is, but I don't qualify! Thought I'd pass it along and hopefully help somebody out!

Job Title
2007-008 , Photographer at Conservation Headquarters, Jefferson City, Missouri, USA

Salary Range: $29952 - $53304

Beginning Salary: $29952 - $35688 depending upon qualification.

Duties and Responsibilities
Using digital SLR cameras, various lenses, location lighting packages, reflectors, filters and other accessories, photographs subjects in the field or in the studio for the Conservationist Magazine and other department publications. Photographs include a variety of human activities throughout the state which relate to wildlife, wise use of natural resources and the enjoyment and study of the natural world, as well as photos of a variety of flora, fauna and landscape subjects shot from an artistic and biological perspective. Pays attention to biological accuracy and concern for safety or proper procedures related to the activities/people shown. Provides diverse and visual perspectives, including use of land, water and air vehicles. Considers technical needs of the shoot and location and design lighting setups and camera angles to dynamically and accurately portray the subject. Sets up equipment accordingly. Edits photos for quality (sharpness, density, composition) and content. Prepares, codes and enters images into online photo storage system for access to other department employees and edits photos with publication use in mind. Consults with art director, designers and editors and assembles a package of photographs that effectively and succinctly communicates the story and essence of the subject matter. Prepares prepress images for publication by digitally cropping, color correcting, enhancing and separating for CMYK publication using sophisticated photo-editing software. Researches and provides textual information to the editors for use in captions and possible changes or additions to the written article. Analyzes Missouri Conservationist upcoming articles and other Department publications for visual interpretation. Consults with wildlife photographer and art director. Maintains awareness of future publications and file needs to take advantage of opportunities for photos while traveling throughout the state, or in conjunction with planning for magazine shooting. Researchs and scouts locations, people and events for photos. Arranges and schedules shoots, including contacting appropriate subjects, gathering required props and equipment and arranging appropriate locations. Prints photographs for internal and external uses, maintains digital and slide photo files. Does photo file searches. Provides file photos to media organizations on request. Scans slides for various uses. Refines craft and seeks new ideas by staying abreast of current artistic and technical trends in the industry pertaining to photography and to digital photo-enhancement, color theory and correcting, pre-press techniques and related computer hardware and software and photography equipment. Reads trade publications and other books and publications. Attends seminars and workshops. Reads internet discussion groups and online trade publications. Photographs commission meetings, legislative proclamations at the Governor’s office, award’s presentations, dedications and special meetings and events for use in Currents and other internal publications, news releases, almanac section of magazine and other department publications. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in photography, journalism, graphic arts, biology, or closely related subjects and at least two (2) years professional experience following graduation in photography; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirement:
Each applicant must submit a portfolio of at least 20 color images in slide or digital format (CD or DVD) to Human Resources, Missouri Department of Conservation, 2901 West Truman Blvd., Jefferson City, MO 65109. Samples will not be returned.

Exemption Status/Special Notes
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This position has been determined to be exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees must agree to accept compensatory time off in lieu of cash payments in accordance with the Department’s Compensatory Time Off and Overtime policy.

Smoking is prohibited in all owned, rented or leased Department of Conservation offices, buildings, and similar facilities, in Department aircraft, and in vehicles.

The Department of Conservation will hire only United States citizens and aliens authorized to work in the United States. All new employees will be required to complete an "Employment Eligibility Verification" (Form I-9) and produce requested documentation after employment.

Candidates seeking initial employment or re-employment must submit to a drug screen following offer of employment.

All persons employed with the state of Missouri shall file all state income tax forms and pay all state income taxes owed.
