This is purely a hypothetical question, but I'm bored and want to ask. The rumor mill is swirling with talk of a new 1Ds Mk III coming out this year at about the same price as the Mk II, with the main difference being that the Mk III will be 22mp (among other improvements). The mark II is $6,800 on Amazon right now, which is so far out of my price range I don't even consider it. But what if Canon, upon releasing the mk III, was to cut the price of the mk II in HALF? Would you buy it? Would you shell out over $3k for a 16mp beauty with all the bells and whistles and more? I know, stupid question since I highly doubt it will happen. But would you? Would a 1 series 16mp camera be worth it to you at that price? Let's here it!

Nope. I shoot sports and action too much. I feel like I'd be hampered by the 4fps. And 16.7MP raw files? I can't afford the HDDs... =]

Edit: Now, if someone gave me one... =D

Heh prices typically dont get cut in half when a new release come sout maybe 10-20%. Alot of camera stores will only cut the bare minimum to make the sale. I work in car part sales we cut the crap out of stuff just to make atleast 10% in commision. But electronics are a different story even in car parts.

HDD prices are low man. .20 to .30 cents a GB. 320 GB har ddrivs are running 80 and up now. With 500 GB drives running 170 and up.

From a professional standpoint, then certianly yes, but from an amateur or hobbyist standpoint, certainly not. If i had that kinda money, i would setup a small studio first, get a few clients, make some more money and then, and only then consider the purchase as an investment.

I was just pointing out the added cost... I know they're cheap. Don't forget we're being über hypothetical anyways...

Well, you could also look at it as a few years from now you probably will be able to get one of these (or a future equivalent) for about that price. I guess another way to ask the question is, would all the features and specs of this particular camera be worth $3k - $4k to you?

Is there some reason people don't just buy the 11mp, full frame, 1DS which goes for $2000-2500?

Apparently there is (so many people here with 5D's, and hardly any with 1DS'es), so I doubt the mark 2 will be much more popular with non-pro's after it's replaced.

No cause I would buy a 5D for $900 instead - Hey, If the 1Ds halves the others down stream would also right :-)) I would love a 1-series at some point but right now, I could not justify the price (I have never taken the grip off my 20D, so prefer the size of the 1-series).

No, I just can't afford anything else at the moment. You want to trade?

Nope sorry no trade here. I just thought that your comment was odd considering your likely doing well shooting sports with 3fps, but felt you would be hampered by shooting with 4.

I was just stating that I wouldn't shell out for a 1DsII for that reason, especially when I could get a 1DII for a comparable price. And, yes I shoot sports with what I have now, and yes I feel hampered now. That's just the way it is, though.

Unfortunately I don't have $1k any more than I have $3k.
