what printer is it?
Are you sure you're not almost out of black ink? Sometimes printers will try and "make black" by combining other colors, but this is usually only when the black is gone.
Edit: drunken fingers out of control

I thought the black may have been "bad"...I just put another in and it looks the same...dark black = purple....
Any ideas?

| Are you using Canon paper? I've heard others on dpreview complain about purples with non-Canon papers. |

Huh.... I was just about to post a similar problem with our HP printer!
Hasn't been a problem we've noticed before, until printing a couple hundred business cards last Saturday. Used Avery 8879 glossy biz cards - but have not noticed this with HP or Epson papers; can't recall if the Canon did or not (nor Kodak)...
I hope this meandering post actually helps somebody; I'm going to bed. |

Ok...I deleted the "printer" from my computer. I downloaded the driver from Canon. Installed the driver. Printer is printing as good as new! I guess the driver got screwed up some kind of way!
Yeee haaaa.
