I am looking to buy Photomatix because I found out that they have a %70 educational discount. Now my question is this, should I buy it with the PS plug-in or not? I guess I am really asking what the plug-in does exactly. Is it just replicating the capability of PS? Or does it allow for more tone mapping options when coupled with PS. Note that I use PSE5 and not CS2.

Any other thoughts or opinions?

I don't think the plug-in works for PSE5, I think its just for CS2. Maybe somebody can correct me if I'm wrong.

The site says it works with CS, PSE4 and PSE5 but only at 16-bit color. One day I may own CS2 or even CS3 so then I would have full support.

The capabilities of the plugin are pretty similar either way, but with the plugin you don't have to save and reopen the image in two different programs in the process. I would think the plugin would just about always be preferred.
