If you're self employed and have medicial insurance that is not through your spouse's employer I'd like to hear from you. I use American Medical Security, which I'm so tired of. Not only are they consistantly scaling back coverage their monthly premiums go up every year by $100. It is costing me close to $800 to cover my spouse and I. Is there something better out there for those self employed?

You might try The NASE (National Association for the Self-Employed).
I know we looked into it a few years back when the hubby was still a carpenter, but I don't recall exaclty what the deal was...
It might be worth a look though.

Good Luck! You'll need it.
I couldn't find any coverage through a private insurance company. for less than $800/mo and that was with an $7500 deductible. WTF?
I had to go to Blue Cross/Blue Shield, which covers little, but only costs $500/mo for a family of 4. It'll help if something serious happens, but for the most part, we're on our own.
FWIW, insurance gotten through an association is not the same as a group plan that you would get through an employer. It's basically an individual plan at a slightly discounted rate, if there is a discount at all.

i had a policy through //www.unicare.com/ that was quite inexpensive and had fine coverage. they've since been purchased by anthem/wellpoint but i think the coverage is about the same.
i had a lot of luck going through eHealthInsurance to look through policies. that's how i found unicare.
hope this helps. :) |

Thanks. By any chance, does anybody use HSAs, Health Savings Accounts? If I remember correctly from the research I did several years back you'd use that with a high deductible plan. Anybody recommend that vs just a straight plan?
