"Aside from the Free Study challenges, which needn't any interpretation, it's time for a 'Diagonals' or 'Night Shot' or some other theme that either is or isn't. ;-)"

... HUH?!

LOL ... guess what I was thinking didn't convey in text. Heh. It doesn't totally make sense even to me now that I've re-read it. And I'm sober!!! :-P

All I meant was it's time for a challenge that is cut-and-dry in its theme, something that's not open for interpretation (but still allows for creativity) -- like "diagonals" or "night shot" etc.

i totally agree ... but i think fruit & vege challenge meets that criteria.

i also like the idea of pushing photographers to get away from studio work occasionally ... so a landscape challenge, or a sky challenge might be fun too! :)

Tangoing with a personal worst in this one - 4.2!!!!!! Didn't think it was THAT bad. Ordinary perhaps...but not forgettably awful.

You don't need a Landscape Challenge... When you don't know what to do, just go and photograph a Landscape and give it a good title. It always do well. You'll see in this Personification a Landscape winning, I think.

done voting....I'll see if I can find some time to comment on a few.

edit: and after voting on all the photo's my feelings that my photo is a good photo is even stronger. It won't ribbon but a 5 is too low imho...there were a couple of photo's that took some time to see the personification. But when I saw it, I thought it was well spotted or clever etc. So for the folks who still need to vote: Please take your time to REALLY look at the photo's!!

sorry ... i'm an english professor ... and the word 'personification' has a very specific meaning to me. i tried to be open minded and i didn't want to troll ... so i gave a lot of photos the benefit of the doubt.

i have seen a couple of absolutely amazing shots though.

good luck everyone! :)

I'm just curious...what if your meaning for personification (or any challenge for that matter) doesn't match the challenge description? When you vote do you vote based on your meaning or the challenge description??

I have a very specific meaning for personification also. I noticed that the challenge entries fell into three main groups and two of the groups, to me, have little to do with personification. So, I'm sitting this one out.

My score sucks, BTW, so obviously I don't know what it means. ;)

You need to be an open mind...
Here an exemple of a not so obvious Personification... Or maybe not!?! ;)

Disappointingly just above my average. Would have liked a little higher ;-)

Your example does not fit my definition of personification. How exactly are the lemons personified?

Oh that's easy...can I answer that one please Mr Teacher?

The lemons ends are shaped like the nipple of the girl. The pierced lemon is an imitation of a pierced nipple...get it??

Perhaps seeing as English is not my first language I had a too literal interpretation of the word in mind....
02/06/2007 08:14:00 AM · #141
Ya...that can be a big issue at times. Both in photographing and voting.
02/06/2007 08:16:44 AM · #142
nah they're severalways to portray personification. I used it to make something look like a human body. Others expressed emotions, and then there are the ones that kept on seeing smilies and faces in certain objects.

I've noticed that, I suppose I just always thought my English was good enough that I would not misunderstand something like this. My score here is a personal worst at 3.4.....
Sulking quite a bit here....

Can you imagine! An Aussie and a South African sulking together! Now there is something that NEVER happens!

Could almost be an entry for the "good" challenge...
02/06/2007 08:27:42 AM · #148
i feel the love! oh yes! :P

is a 5.1 sulk-worthy?
02/06/2007 08:31:48 AM · #149
5.1? Sure why not, any excuse to get drunk!
02/06/2007 08:38:11 AM · #150
I've noticed that very few people have voted. I only have 88 votes and 155 views. Maybe everyone is waiting for some divine intervention.
