Wow! it's dropped almost a full tenth point in the last half hour! Maybe these voters should have their dinner before they vote!!? :) Maybe they're just grouchy. Or maybe they realize my photo is not worthy of their high votes. :b

i have to admit that i voted low in this challenge too ... i did see a bunch of great shots. few 9s, few 8s, quite a few 7-5s, but a hell of a lot of sub 5 scores ... maybe it's my interpretation of personification, but if i'd commented, i would have said 'this isn't personification' at least 20 times so far! :(
sorry ... i'm an english professor ... and the word 'personification' has a very specific meaning to me. i tried to be open minded and i didn't want to troll ... so i gave a lot of photos the benefit of the doubt.
i have seen a couple of absolutely amazing shots though.

I would welcome a comment of "this isn't personification, this is xxxx"
My entry is (imnqsho) the epitome of personification ... obviously voters feel differently.

I'm just curious...what if your meaning for personification (or any challenge for that matter) doesn't match the challenge description? When you vote do you vote based on your meaning or the challenge description?? |

I am totaly amazed at the lack of lateral thinking in this challenge as shown by the comments and scoring.
The details say, Take a photo of something non-human-looking that still shows human characteristics or evokes a human feeling.
It appears a lot of voters can not destinguish between non-human looking, and human characteristics that evoke personification. |

Usually the case for all my entries but this time I was pretty sure I would make upper 5s, maybe low 6... but not mid 4s. I am not discouraged or anything, as a matter of fact this one gave me little more boost to do better next time.

It seems with all the "interpretive" challenges lately, even those that are technically well defined but loose enough in description to be left open for interpretation, have befuddled the voting masses ... at least that's how it appears from voting and comments. Aside from the Free Study challenges, which needn't any interpretation, it's time for a 'Diagonals' or 'Night Shot' or some other theme that either is or isn't. ;-)

Well Rob O ... you had me hook, line, and sinker ... until that last sentence then you lost me. Did a typo make this totally uncomprehendible to me as to what you were trying to say or do I just want some of what you are drinking/taking?

you raise a good point ... my answer is that i try to find a medium between both. i accept that my interpretation of personification is different to that of others ... and a little different to the note in the challenge description.
challenge rules say that voters should be open minded, which i try to be.
i think the problem isn't the challenge, but the use of such a specific word.
but that doesn't change the fact that i think some photos completely missed the mark, or were very poorly shot.
