Very nice. I like the couple shots too and the tape measure was a nice idea. I don't care for the laying down one, it just looks a bit awkward. |

I really like these. might i suggest that for the measurment shots that you try to find maybe a pastel pink/blue and yellow measuring tape. I think it would add that special touch and wont be such a harsh contrast.
just a thought...

FWIW, I also think the color shots are working better for you on this series than are the B&W.

The word I am going to use is "Pedestrian".
They aren't screamingly bad, and technically, there are some good things going on here.. but for me, there is nothing in this series that reaches out to grab you. Flat, for the most part, the compositions are a little uninspired, and the colors aren't flattering for the mood.
I'm with Fotomann on this one as well, in that the B&W shots aren't really working as well as the color ones. They seem less sharp, and lacking in presentation.
I think a little more study in maternity shooting, and looking at shots that have appealed to you in the past, and working on getting a set of poses and styles together that you can work off of, will be a huge bonus. You'll also benefit from paying more attention to your lighting and color-play in order to enhance and complement the mood, where in these shots, I sense more of a conflict.
Just some thoughts from me.

I would not call these images "pedestrian". The poses, for the most part, are good. To me it is the technical treatment that makes the difference and I think the treatment of the images could be better. They are not as flttering to the mother as they might be. The detail you can see just does not make her look that good.
A gaussian blur/NeatImaged layer at a low opacity might make these images a lot more appealing, softer and flatter your mother more.

My (personal) preference on the belly shots with hands would be not to crop so tightly. Show more of the arms encircling the belly (especially with the two pairs of hands). |

I have to agree that there should be more softness in processing. I think a small bit of faded Gaussian blur would go a long way in these shots.

These are all great comments, thanks! Can anyone provide some examples of the "technical treatments" you recommend. Any examples out there of some outstanding maternity shots to emulate? |
