So here I stood in the old Missions in San Antonio Texas. Needed the longer zoom, reacher down, released the lens to replace it with the big ugly 70-200 f/2.8 L IS and clink clink. I'm still holding everything, what could it be ....
Yup the plastic focusing screen drops out of the camera body. Crap, a month old and falling apart already. Now what? Looked simple to replace, but I stopped by a camera repair store, two minutes later at no cost it's a fixed camera. On checking, the part is replaceable with a couple of different screens. One had a grid pattern etched, that might be a great update .... if it stays in where it belongs.
Has anyone else had the screen drop out? |

No but I have the 20D. After hearing stories from DrAchoo and now you I'm not eager to upgrade. Btw, did you get any good shots before the problem?

I haven't had any problems with mine. Knock knock. And yes,the focusing screen is a user removable part.

I got a few pics, I always enjoy walking the Missions. Here's a pic of the water wheel driven flour grinder that is at one of the missions. The grinding stones were brought over from France in the 1700's ... incredible.

Not had it fall out, but I have replaced the standard screen with the EeS which allows for more accurate manual focussing. Its a simple 2 minute switch to put the old screen back in and they even give you a little tool to do it with. Its not a fault is a designed in and very valuable feature.

| I have had it fall out before but i think i hit the little lip to release it while i was changing lenses. it has only happened once and I wouldn't let it discourage anyone from getting the camera. |
