So, I just saw This WEBSITE as I was looking up "high key photography". I may be on crack, but the guy says that Photoshop CS2 will directly open a RAW file.... ??? Is that right? I've never tried it becuase I assumed you needed a special program to convert a RAW file. Here is the post...
Any input for me as I try to plow my way through learning about photography? :)

CS2 will directly open a raw file using its bridge component. |

CS2 has a RAW converter built in; it's called Adobe Camera RAW, ACR for short. It will open most RAW formats, but may not open files from the very latest cameras, until the RAW converter is updated. Not sure about CS2 and the XTi.
Edit:
Functionally, it's like opening the file natively in PS, you just double-click it and it opens, with one difference: you are able to make adjustments during the conversion process, and when you click OK, the shot appears in PS, ready for editing

WHat is the bridge component? I suppose I could take a few test RAW shots and try to see if my CS2 will open it from the XTI. Is there anything special I need to do? I hope I'm not asking dumb questions!!!
Thanks for all your help! |

Double Click on the file lol. It even opens Fuji's SuperCCD RAF CCD Raw files. Make sure you have Camera Raw 3.6 for the latest compatabiklity. |

Camera RAW 3.6 is the key. When I got my XTi, I had to download this update before CS2/ACR could open my RAW files.
Here is a linky to the download if you need it.
