That being said, I am always trying to set the bar higher for myself.

I have gone the extra couple yards to make it legal, and I am actually starting to gain confidence IN SPITE OF THE DPC VOTERS!!!!

Part of the reason for that is the feedback I get here.

I just entered a contest in that my local camera club gave, and with it went a critique.

I was led to believe that the critique was optional, and much to my dismay, it came with the entries.

There were three judges, two of whom were pretty decent and one that was the most pretentious, pompous ass I ever met in my life.

Had I not had the experiences, help, input, and honest, thoughtful critiques that I have had here from y'all at TS, I would have been really upset, or worse, hurt this jerk BAD!!!!

As it was, because of my knowledge gleaned here, and a level of confidence, I wrote off all his rantings to the halfwit, stuck-on-himself idiot that he was.

One really funny aside......he HAMMERED me for dodging and burning the shot I took......

Umm....can someone show me how to use the dodge and burn tools some time?

ROTFLMSOAO!!!!!!!

Current relevance for this post....I'm in the trees!....8>)

You guys should like it but I don't know how well it will do.

the deadline is in 10 minutes ;)

I think I made it - what sort of state I'll be in come next Thursday is another story, but hey, one thing at a time...

raish, be sure to take notes. Note, for example, if she asks for a bagel, or has that sort of bagel-lust in her eyes, or if she eats strange varieties of pickled, smoked or otherwise canned fish. You might also take note of any unusual sideburn activity. Does she keep her head covered at all times? Also note unusual word order and throat-clearing sounds during her fricatives. Also, if she complains about her rent, or if she follows her complaints with an exaggerated shrug of the shoulders. It is important that you be thorough.

i wish i could enter this shot in trees but alas, it is a couple of years old.

i'm not sure how the one i entered will be received but i am sure that i really don't care.

my "free study" is going to bang.

Lee - yep yep yep on ISO.

ISO 400 on Deb's SLR is going to be MUCH nicer than ISO 400 on my point-and-shoot.

You're absolutely right that people should use the ISO that lets them get the shot they want. I just meant that it's best to use the lowest ISO that gets it.

Kashi - yep, switching photographic gears quickly will get ya. Oh, well, no huge loss. It can also bite ya even if switching gears over a period of days. I keep my camera on ISO 50 - its lowest. When forced to ISO 100, I do my best to remember to switch back as soon as I'm done.

I'm in trees. For once, I was early - entrant #10.

JerseyGenie update: she had surgery last night to stabilize her right leg. It's now locked in a straight position with boards down the sides. After the swelling subsides in several days, she'll have surgery to fix break #1 - vertical in the tibia, near the knee. After that's better, she has to have surgery for break #2, a few inches below the first one.

Now she and her husband are trying to see if their insurance will pay for an ambulance to get her home. Otherwise she'll have to lie down in the back of their van.

She continues to be in good spirits, and chuckles when I make jokes. :) I think this is the beginning of a long friendship!

Don, what was that all about? Trying to find out how Silverfoxx's voice sounds?

Finally, my spirits are rising along with my Hate score - back up to 6.1 today! And 12 mostly very positive comments already.

This is nice. The exposure on the moon is very well done!

As I have said before, I have reason to believe that silverfoxx is actually an old Jewish man living in Brooklyn who has kidnapped a Puerto Rican girl. raish now has a unique opportunity to test this theory. I have no doubt that silverfoxx will be using all of her wiles during their meeting, but raish has keen powers of observation. He is the one to break the Davinsky Code!

LOL. I'll look forward to seeing it...maybe the site council should have a 'boring' challenge, so Larus can make it look interesting.

Larus would completely dominate a 'boring' challenge, that's for sure.

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Based on the two scores I'm getting now, and the fact that the higher one is for the image that I *didn't* care about doing well, I should completely stop caring about what I enter.

Stupid freaking insurance. >:-(

Glad that she's in good spirits though.

My card is seriously marked. I have also to investigate suspicions of silverfoxx being an incarnation of Lobsang Cartier-Bresson Vermeer. I shall be sure to mention Tsaryevna if the occasion arises.

I'm officially taking a break.

My brain just said "I hate photography." Which is of course not true, but to think that is not a good sign.

So I'm just going to not be involved in any photo stuff online for a while.

edit: I'll probably hang around this thread tonight and tomorrow and that'll be it for a while.

Take it easy on the Break, i found that last year i had a massive break from DPC as i felt cornered in the shots i was taking and really did not enjoy myself.

Take it easy and come back soon.

On another note. Its Friday, time for the weekend. I have two rugby matches to shoot this weekend and i am 98% sure i have a job taking interior shots of a fashion shop in dublin. Bring on the weekend is what i say

Good luck going pro, I made the jump last January and set up Brooks Photography as a business. spent last year doing various stuff but this year i am full steam ahead on the photography. I have a 5 year plan in effect so when i am 37 I hope to be full time. 1 year down 4 to go then. :-)
I got a boost by getting in contact with a local rugby club which has spawned other work. and so far i am flying.

You made a decision. Be proud of yourself for that. (NB this is not sarcasm). We'll miss you while you're gone.

Hello fellow suckers!

I had this image that I really liked but comments complained about a halo around one of the buildings and lack of interest in the background (sky) which I agreed with ... so ... I have redone it ... Tell me what you think?

Hey brookied, I guess I didn't realize that you're from Ireland. My wife and I took a trip to Ireland last May. We had a great time and took many pictures.

We started in Dublin and spent two days there, then rented a car and learned how to drive on the opposite side of the car and street. We went on to Wexford, Kilkenney, Cashel, Dingle Peninsula, Doolin and Galway, and then ran out of time. The Dingle Peninsula was absolutely fabulous. I could have spent a week there.

We are already planning our trip back in a couple of years when we get some money saved up. Then we can visit some of the places we missed like Donegal. Hopefuly, we'll have the time to make it to Northern Ireland. I would love to see Belfast and the Giants Causeway.

Nice trip,
i live just near Dublin airport, nice village called Ashbourne. We go out west any chance we get and Visit Achill island. I suggest that you make it there on your next visit and then you can hit Donegal. I may see you in Achill. Give me a shout when your over.

Brookied ... if you click that little box on the bottom of your message input window that says "Automatically Parse URLs" ... then people will be able to click on the URLs for your site and blog without having to cut them and paste them into a browser window. :)

I believe on our last night there we stayed in Ashbourne. Is that just north of the Airport? We ate at a pub called "Hunters Moon". Had a few Guinness' also.

I had Guinness, my wife had Bulmers. We can't get Bulmers here in the states.

Hey Kelly, I don't think that's a bad thing. Sometimes it gets hard keeping up on challenges and you really don't get to take the shots that you would really like to do.

You could always take shots of the stuff you like and then just put them in your portfolio and insert them into the Team Suck thread and we will all see them. That way there's not challenge hastle.
02/23/2007 08:29:13 AM · #975
I was thinking maybe we should send some flowers or something to JerseyGenie from Team Suck to cheer her up. As I realize getting people to chip in on payment would be pretty difficult given the online situation, I'd be happy to spring for this, and (God forbid!) if anything similar happens in the future, maybe it could swing to someone else.

Any objections? Please let me know, and levyj413 if you would be so kind as to pass along the hospital/room info, I can make arrangements.
