again i was just surprised to see us with a brown. I am also a very competitive person and hate coming last. ;-) |
I think you might fit in bett in the WPL. Or maybe you'd like to do both. But each fills a different niche. I'm plenty competitive, and enjoy playing sports and various board games, but that's not what Team Suck is about.
I laugh regularly because I can barely remember I'm on team minus, much less who's on my team. The only reason we have teams is to get to vote for OOBIE and YAPPIE awards, as far as I know. So once you don't win that week, the rest of the rankings are pretty meaningless, at least to me.
What I *am* impressed with, and love seeing, is how high each team's average is. I mean, every team hitting 5.4 and up is terrific progress!
That said, sure, I want to improve. And high scores are more fun than low ones. But a major part of the team suck attitude is shooting what you want, posting what you get, and getting support and help to improve. NOT competing.

And I just entered Trees, Jayson, so breathe easy! My sucky shot will drag us to browndom in no time!
Wow, people, stop getting yourselves hurt unless you get paid to do so - it's fine for me to break a bone if a horse takes me down with them (as one did, collarbone) - but not for the rest of you! Jeez! :-)
Kaish, Kelli was and is the best person to talk to re stock, she has the biggest portfolio...for now, hehehehe...
Maybe we should start a Team Stock? |

I like it on the team, i like feeling a further part of the site. i just think we can lift it up and see how good we really are.
I myself have made a decision to lift my photography this year. i did not put enough in last year due to other stuff but this year is different. i will win a challenge, I will score higher in my overall challenge entries, I will also comment a lot more on challenges. but most of all i will enjoy my photography and have fun
moving on ;-)
Have to say the Trees challenge did not interest me in the slightest, Acronyms did and I also will shoot for Low Key to try something different

I almost fell asleep just posting my Tree, it's so damn boring. Shot it while waiting for car to warm up, so I think I took a grand total of 4 shots, the one I submitted was shot blind.
Very happy with Hate, steadily going up...
time go vote now! |

Hiya Brookied... enthusiasm and go-team-go is positive stuff. I think the problem comes in when you have to define 'good'. We are an alt team because for us, a good photo is interesting, or complicated, or artsy... and these styles are not often well-received at dpc. So getting better on a personal level might not correspond with 'good' scores. But no one will argue that the following is a great goal: "but most of all i will enjoy my photography and have fun" !

When I vote in a challenge, I do try to comment on 20% as a minimum. I don't always get there and often I go over that, but that's my goal. I also comment on a lot of shots outside of challenges. Usually either stuff I see when going through the "Post your favorite" type threads, or lately in the "Where you live" thread. |

What?! We just had snow and ice up the wazoo for Winterlude in the form of sculptures this year in Ottawa, and NOW the sick b*****ds call for an ICE challenge! May have to fake it with the lightbox.
BTW, something I picked up when working in a restaurant: use HOT water when making ice cubes, stops them from being cloudy. Mind I don't know how that'll play out at my place, the water is so hard there's rocks coming out of the tap. Oh well.
Time to go now, they're calling for *snow* today.
Bye all! |

LOL. I'll look forward to seeing it...maybe the site council should have a 'boring' challenge, so Larus can make it look interesting. |

...And Brookied, you might have taken what both Mary and myself said the wrong way. I know I try to improve, as I'm sure we all do. I'm just not competitive. I'm on this team for support. To me any score over a 5 makes me happy. I'd be over the moon if I ever break a 6. But, it's just not why I'm here. I also don't post often enough to make our own thread worthwhile and Mary keeps up all the picture posting and voting and what not in this thread. ;) I barely ever make it over to our club house. |

[quote=Melethia] David, to me half the fun (if not more) of a challenge is going out to see what I can see and shoot keeping the challenge in mind. The other half of the fun is getting home to see what I got. The challenge itself is, well, usually not fun, so I just kinda say "eh" and look at the next one.
Deb
I agree. As long as i can have fun and learn something i am all for it. I gots lots of room to learn so thats generally not too hard and if i quit haveing fun with something then i will find something else to do. And right now i am haveing a blast learning photography
good luck with your entries. |

Okay - suckers - just how awful a shot is this ? Yes, it's quite heaviliy processed (noise reduction, gradient to sky, boost to brightness and saturation, remove colour cast, high-pass sharpening, resize, USM, save for web)

And a good one too. Now I'm really not sure what to do with the photo.
There wasn't much thought in the taking of it - I just thought it was a cool looking plane. Love the colour of it. I could have tried a lower angle - maybe I will if we head back up there again.
I can't get any closer, I'm trying to shoot through a chain-link fence, and have my zoom out as far as I can without enabling digital zoom.
I'd forgotten my tripod at home, I'll have to remember that next time.

I have several comments on my "Hate" shot so far and some of them are just plain nasty. What's wrong with some of these people? |

There is never a need for a nasty comment, leave a comment make it constructive or leave nothing at all.

skewsme - First, thank you for the comment on the plane.
I used the Noise Reduction that is built into PS Elements 4.0 as the first step in my editing. I have the free copy of NeatImage as well, but didn't use it on this photo.

Speaking of GOOD comments, you left me a very constructive one, Darren. I do have another shot I'll share after the challenge that may be closer to what you suggested.
And do any Suckers have suggested acronyms to consider?? I'm kind of at a loss. I do have one idea but it's absolutely horrid. It would be funny, though.

I have a great idea for acronym, but it will be hard to execute since I don't have any studio lighting equipment. I just hate it when I can see a finished product in my mind but don't know how to get there... |
