Hey Team Novice - did you notice that we got the blue again??? This is amazing! What's happening to our 'ole reliable brown suckiness?

You could try asking scalvert for help, he's a graphic designer by profession, and he's always been nice and helped me with my questions.

Thank you and I will ask Scalvert, I like his work and know that he does give good advice.

This is the first time I've been the winner of the "Momentary Lack of Suckiness" award since I first joined TS, in Nov. I think that says something about my usual scoring... :-)

noraneko, haven't seen you around in a while, wasn't sure if you survived Arizona or not.

We're just east of Toronto, and didn't get all that much here. Plus, we live in an apartment, so no shoveling for us.

Ah, fellow Suckmates... a tale of woe for you to get a chuckle out of, particularly our European suckees...

Dumb American in Europe story (an expensive lesson!): In Germany, the doors open only with keys. You can't leave a door unlocked and use a doorknob to open it - the doorknobs aren't turnable - they're just handles, more or less. I've done VERY well so far in not forgetting keys when I leave the house, including just to take out the trash and such. So this evening, I'm going to go get my bike and head out to take some pictures. I have my extra single house key on a chain I can wear around my neck. My key ring with all my other keys is in the lock on the inside of the door (where I leave it when I'm home, so when I go out I remember to take my keys!) Well little did I know that on some locks, if the key is in the lock on the inside (which by the way is the only way to lock the door from the inside - with the key), the key will NOT open the door from the outside.

120 US dollars later I have a new lock and some new keys. And THIS lock will let me unlock from the outside if the key is in the lock on the inside. I'm very grateful that a) I have a neighbor who understands and speaks English, and b) that neighbor happens to know a locksmith, and c) that locksmith happened to be on his way into town.

The funny part - actually it's all kinda funny, just expensive - is that while the locksmith was trying to open the door before having to drill out the lock - I could look through the little mail slot and see both cats just sitting there just beyond the door. I kept telling them "schlussel - get the schlussel!" but would they get the keys out of the lock? No. They just sat there. Maybe if I had said "key" they would have figured it out. I doubt it, though.

And my whole point of getting out after work was to go take pictures for the "Where I Live" thing - had a beautiful day! Alas, no pictures but a fun story to tell and a lighter wallet to go with it. :-)

Ouch, $120, but it's probably better in the long run that you have the new key system.

After being locked out twice, we exchanged keys with a trusted neighbor.

My landlord has a key had I just locked myself out. Thing was I DID have a key - it just wouldn't work because I'd left the other set in the lock on the inside. I'd have never thunk it would have that effect, but I suppose it's handy if you're really PO'd at your spouse - you could very easily lock him/her out that way.

Heh, I tried to do that to my husband once... he came in through a 2nd floor window! LOL. That's what happens when you marry a construction worker. At least it won't happen to you again!

Thanks so much, Svetlana!
Deb, what a bummer about the keys. Silly cats, they need to learn their German better :-) Maybe Svetlana can come over and teach them some Russian.
We suckers do seem to love our cats, don't we? The name "noraneko" means "stray cat" in Japanese.

Woot! ... It stopped raining in Belgium this morning and the sun came out! I went downtown and shot 'off the hip" street pics for hours. It was GREAT!

Can't wait to see them! Street photography is awesome. Hope sickdog shows up and enters a photo, BTW. He loves street photos. Haven't seen him in awhile, though.

Sickdog was on his way to New Orleans I believe.

Well, he certainly chould have fodder for um, interesting street shots. Although these days there is more tragedy than humor in New Orleans, unfortunately.

Your scores have been pretty solid lately, m'dear. I don't think I'm going to take all the credit for that one, especially not with that stunning orchid shot of yours.

I'm glad you two ( juliboc and noraneko)are there keeping us alive because I'm sucking big-time. I have to come up with some ideas.

I took a couple hours off work today and went out shooting. Still don't have anything for the upcoming challenges but I had a good time. I found out one thing, I need to get my sensor cleaned bad.

Has anyone cleaned their sensor before? Is it difficult? How did you do it?

I am SO chuffed about the Street Photography challenge! I have finished my Post Processing and my expedition onto the street this late morning yeilded NINE! for my challenge short list to decide from and a few more OTHER keepers for my Street Photography Portfolio (to be created shortly). I am rather happy ... yup ... uh huh ... yup.

Since we are about supporting each other and not about competing with one another, I am going to give some shoutouts to a couple people on the team other than the ones who have scored well lately; I hope this will start a trend that will add to the happy trend of congratulating the high scorers.

by mngolfer I really like this abstract. It doesn't have as loose a crop as other shots like this I've seen but that helps keep my eye roaming all over the image. Sometimes that's not a good thing but I really like it here as I feel like there is so much to see no matter where I look.
by griz210 Again, maybe not orthodox.. doesn't have the same feel as landscapes that score higher. However that's what I like about it, as the beautiful yellow glow makes me feel that I want to be right in the photo, basking in the warmth. It is a rare photo that makes me want to be in it.
