I was pretty excited this morning when I woke up and saw my score was almost 7.000. Now it has dropped almost .4, but there is still along way to go, I know.

Good and bad marked at the end of the 1 to 10 scale is just to indicate which way the scale works. It's up to the voters to detemine how all the numbers in the range are to be used.
To me, 10 is 'perfect, nothing could make the image better'

Great example how voters decide for themselves what "good" means. Obviously, you can decide for yourself what "good" means.
I, for one, believe "good" means something different from what most of you believe.
My problem with voters is that they say one thing, they say in forums that images submitted here are "good", but vote very differently. If an image is "good", then vote it "good" (10), don't vote it like it is a failure (5).
Generally speaking there is about a differnce of 2 between an average image (about 5.3 at present) and a ribbon winner (just over 7).
I vote the average image at DPC a "7" out of "10", which in most places outside DPC is "average". That leaves plenty of room for a difference of about 2 between the average image score and the VERY best ribbon winners!

Okay, my rant is over :) LOLOLOL |
Hehe, OK, but to be fair I'll have to spend extra time on each of the other 560 entries, so for every extra 1 second, that's an additional 9 minutes and 20 seconds overall. ;-) |
You're right, I'm asking a lot huh? ;) |
ya, i usually just close my eyes and click random scores, takes like 5min tops (jjking of course :D )

Well, maybe we should just remove all the numbers in between 1 and 10 since we're not being told what they mean. Vote 1 for the 'bad' images and '10' for the good ones. Problem solved.

Thought my shot would at least be in the low 6's. No comments....don't know if I'm more disappointed with the score or the fact I can't gauge the reason WHY it's not scoring higher without comments helping me know why.
Guess all I can derive from the score and lack of comments is that it's AVERAGE. I don't want average, darn it!! (over achiever syndrom!) |

I got my first validation request ...
"Your image in the Free Study 2007-01 challenge, "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX" needs to be validated. (number of characters here changed)
Please visit the following URL within 48 hours for details on how to submit your original, unedited photograph:
//www.dpchallenge.com/proof_request.php?IMAGE_ID=XXXXXX
Remember to list the details of any post-shot editing that you performed. Note that failing to provide the camera original in a timely manner will result in your submission being disqualified."
OK ...
I have submitted the original straight-from-the-camera image that I used to make my image ... Find below what I put in the post processing description box ...
Wow ... I did, in a VERY detailed fashion, describe the post processing in this photo in the Photographer's comments when I submitted it. Can you not access those? I cannot when it is in the voting stage. I did not know I had to save ALL those details as WELL as the original from-the-camera image. I am sorry ... I choose not to guess as to the exact PP I did on this photo. If you cannot access the Photographer's Comments then we will have to wait until the challenge is over? ...
Do you think this is gonna be good enough? |

This is sort of a weird free study for me. No comments,1 favorite, low score, and a strange overall vibe. Hmm. Weird.

AMEN!! It's like, if you keep it simple, people reward you, if you put thought into it and compose it very carefully, you get smacked! LOLOL However, you can't keep it toooooo simple cause they don't like that either! I think it is the people who just register and "visit to vote" that kill the scores. Just an opinion of course :) AND, just a stipulation :D |

I'm sure it's a topic beaten to death in the forum archives somewhere ... but I wonder how allowing only paid members to vote on Member Challenges would impact the outcomes of those. Probably not much "regulation" can be done on who votes for Open Challenges given the free and open registration process.

only paying members can vote on member challenges. registered voters can only comment.
I don't know if it is because there are 6 challenges up for voting or because one of those challenges involves 120 or so nekkid people, but there are not that many votes coming in so far for the Free Study IMO. I have 35 votes now and I had that in the first half hour of the nude challenge. |

Only Members CAN vote on Members Challenges. That's how it's been for at *least* a year, since I started. |

Only the second time I've entered a free study. Looking for reactional feedback more than anything else. 3 comments so far making me think it could be worth pursuing. Grateful for that but yeah, 37 votes and only 58 views? - a couple of those I think may have been to bump, as my score went up with no extra votes. 6.1+ now. |

Well, I turned the scores back on and my entry is doing better than expected. I planned on getting the brown. I needed to enter something for the whole Free Study marathon thing. So I put this one up last minute. A low 5 score is better than a 0 |

I think you hit the nail. Too many challenges. I am still sifting through the 400+ of Shallow. I think it will get it's due, but there are other challenges expiring today, so once that is done I figured it would pick up. |

Don't get me wrong ... I'd be happy if only members could vote in member challenges. But the above was literally just copy/pasted from the DPC Help section 2 minutes ago. ;-)

thats odd, I know before I paid I couldn't vote and have comments from registered users on member challenges to the effect "this is good, if I could vote on it I would give it a X."
now I am curious, I remember being excited that I could vote on member challenges once I ponied up the cash, err credit card... |
