Does anyone else experience 'timeout' problems when selecting photos to view on DPC? My computer works fine at first then after about 10 mins, everytime I select a photo to view, it takes ages to load and then eventually times out. I then have to restart my pc. I don't have 'timeout' problems on the forums though.

This happens at work too, so I'm sure it has nothing to do with my home computer. It's very frustrating, especially when I've had a bad hair day! Hubby is keeping his distance, just in case. lol.

You have to restart your PC because of a website timing out?

Well, the rest of the computer works fine but if I want DPC to work properly, I have to shut down. Does that sound weird? Don't know much about computers.

At work I am unable to view certain images/thumbnails. They never load, just gray.
At home it works fine.

What browser are you using?

Norton and Adblock can prevent certain images from not loading on the site.

The ad blocking portion of Norton Internet Security is one of the main culprits for other members here too. You can fix it without disabling ad blocking also.

1. Go to the ad blocking and choose the 'configure' option.

2. Press the 'advanced' button to configure ad blocking for individual websites.

3. Press the 'add site' button to add 'www.dpchallenge.com' to the sites list.

4. Select 'www.dpchallenge.com' from the list and then press the 'add' button.

5. In the html string window, enter "/" without the quotation marks and select the 'permit' radio button.

6. Press OK and work your way back to the top level.

It happens in both FireFox 2 and IE 6. Same laptop at home - no problem.

AOL 9.0

The weird thing is that once I have shut down and restarted, the same images that I had trouble with before, load in a whizz!

I was going to suggest running anti-spyware and anti-virus programs on your computer, especially if it's not an apple. But....... I saw you were from the UK. I hear your internets pipes are round as opposed to the square tubes we use on our internetz. It could be the rectangular images are getting caught katy-cornered in the tubes. ;)

I find my old beast does that sometimes too; the more I move around on the site the slower it gets, closing and reopening it sometimes works, not always. Clearing my temp files seems to do the trick though...
I guess I need a new computer, eh? Anyone wanna tell hubby for me? :)

I have Norton Corporate Edition, there is no blocking. For example, this image:

doesn't load.

Here's a thread from earlier today that mentions the same problem so it looks like it's not just you. I've had two separate occasions recently where all of DPC wouldn't load for me but haven't noticed much problem with individual photos.

There are certain times of the day also, that the site hangs up for a bit, and every night at 1am PST here in the US, the site does it's database maintenance, compression, clean-up, etc and the entire site will hang for a few minutes, generally about 4-5 minutes.

I've done some troubleshooting and have determined that the actual INTERNET is at fault. I am currently working to remedy the situation by optimizing the INTERNET, which resides on the G-drive of my PC. Thank you for your patience.

OK, I am at home now, 1 hr later, and above image that I said did not load at work, loads perfectly now. I did not even reboot, just closed down the screen and brought it home.

Weird.

Ahhh, I just tried pingplotter, and I see where the problem is!
times are great across Canada from here (west coast) but once it crosses the border into the US it drops significantly.

It's those damned customs folks! :)
