Don't worry, I'll find the shot without enough DoF and give it a ten. :-) |

Yes, that's the "spirit" of the competition to which we've become accustomed. Typical, I think of too many. |

No, you've misinterpreted my comments. I am complaining about voters who narrow the challenge description arbitrarily. I have no complaint about those who apply a wider interpretation. |

Ah - OK, then I will back you all the way ;-)
Sorry to misinterpret.

Hmm...what I saw a lot of were shots that seemed to just focus on the front plane/surface of an object with the aperture opened all the way so the rest of the shot is out of focus as opposed to shots where application of the technique of using a shallow DoF was actually employed.
I don't know, perhaps I am just being picky or forming my own opinion. |

I agree 100% on that, this cintest wasnt "Dof how small can you go?"
it was Shallow DOF, meaning dont have a dof that is the entire image. Come on peopel a DOF of a few inches IS a Shallow DOF even a few Feet can be, More than that then I could see sayint it is not shallow. |

But, be sure to submit a ticket to get official SC approval on said opinions.
Thank you, and have a nice day.
:)
Remember folks, people come to dpc with all kinds of backgrounds, opinions, experience (or lack thereof), and mindsets. You cannot please everyone all the time. Take a picture you like, stretch yourself to learn something new, but in the end, it is all just one big learning experience. |

This explains my 4.x score. Otherwise, if I didn't employ proper DoF, it would have been a 2.x or 3.x shot. |

Are you calling the DOF voters shallow? |

That does not explain why I'm getting the same comments when my forground and background are out of focus and the subject is in focus.
Seems I must not have uderstood waht "to make your subject stand out means" either. Oh well, it was a last minute entry anyway and I know better.

I love these technical challenges (Bokeh, Perspective, etc...). There's never a shortage of good reading material in the forums while voting is active. Heck, the reading is pretty good before and after the challenge too! :D

Ha! I entered table shot, not that technical, not much to interpret - yet the first comment says its DNMC :P I love this place!

Don't get me started on the Table Shot challenge - soooo many shots where the camera obviously was not placed on the table. |

The comment I got said mine wasn't ON the table, but I don't think the commentor took into consideration that the shot was cropped a bit and that the camera had a large lens & tripod mount on it.

I had some ideas for this challenge but they were all outdoors and the weather is not being very friendly here so I had to give it a miss. i am glad that I have because I probably would have great reason to agree with the OP had I submitted my idea, Probably wouldn't have been shallow enough. I am still going to shoot the photo once the sun shines and provides a nice blue sky because I have spent a week thinking about how to shoot it and now I want to see the end results. I can then compare it to the top 20 pictures in this challenge and see if I would have gotten slammed by the DOF Patrol.
Right now I am thinking about the Personification challenge..

I'm not in any challenges at the moment. I'm just enjoying adding my snide remarks here & there.

I have to say (HAVE to!) that I'm pretty glad to see this thread! I was a little shocked this morning when I received a comment that implied I didn't manage the technical portion of the challenge (shallow DOF) - after flipping through the entries last night, I was hoping for comments more like "got the technical bit, but sucky photo anyways"!
I expect we'll have many of these threads over the week and several more after the challenge ends! |
