Do you suppose some of that selective focus to be post-processed?

My guess is that's she's likely not shooting digital at all and using a 4X5 field camera.

She shoots with a 5D and a 50mm macro lens primarily - but says occasionally she pulls out the Mamyia. In the article she says that she does very little post processing so I'm guessing the DOF is captured in camera.

Beautiful work. I love those shallow dof's which are in these days.

To shoot food I realized that I have to get DPC far out of my head altogether and take more chances.

I'd like to use my 105mm macro but it's too long. Maybe I'll try the 50mm 1.8 for a few shots even thought my 28-70mm 2.8 gives me a lot of room to play.

Next weekend I'm going to print out some of her stuff and copy her technique. Thanks for the link.

I got inspired by her work this morning. I'm working on a food shot now --- doing the cooking part. (Not for shallow DOF challenge)

Clean, sophistcated work. The commercial work like hers that I see, many times has that light, bright, low contrast look. Just sayin'...

This one is in the ballpark. I need to get in a special zone to do this stuff...

I've been shooting in packed high energy restaurants which goes against the Zen.

Nice job!! That shot does slow the viewer down for a second, its warm and easy to view. You may have a calling there. You should read the article, she explains how she became a food photog, quite by accident.

I too shot food today, but can't share just now. I'm pretty pleased, though with the different way I attacked it this time.

This folder has some test work I've been doing. As I said, I got some DPC criticism on a few shots which scared me...then I paniced and I started to shoot at f9, f10, f11 etc. for people that wanted things more in focus. Pretty stupid of me. I suppose people should read up a bit on a subject before they critique it? My fault for listening...

I need to go in the other direction, at any rate and shoot around f4. My other limitation is that I'm not supposed to touch the food...or at least I'm trying to leave things as are which doesn't always leave me that one bright thing, on any given plate to highlight...or focus on.

The background is also very important...use of place settings, glass, silverware...white backdrops....red backdrops. I need to slip all those things in..even though the place that I've been shooting is done in all dark wood...with dim lighting. It's a good challenge.
