This was my first attempt at photographing sledding dogs at a race.
They sure move a lot faster than they look in photos.
I welcome any comments and suggestions, as I will be going back next Sunday to shoot some more.

thanks Sher. It actually was pretty warm yesterday - about 33 degrees outside. The poor dogs were so hot when they got done with their run.
I emailed these to the 2 local papers. One has already emailed back that if they have room to run anything they will use one or two and make sure I get credit. |

Those look great, Linda. Looks f'ing cold, but fun! I'm thinking - if you ride one while shooting another along side you, you'd get some great panning blur!! LOL

the sled dog race was actually part of the Willow Winter Carnival - and they are raffling off a ride on a sled with dogs. If I win it'll be a fun photo shoot :D |

It looks like your white balance is off in some of the shots, the ones with the reddish tint to them. I shoot alot of snowboard/mtn stuff and snow is a real bitch. I find that its very easy to correct with levels if you shoot jpeg, or in RAW conversion if thats your fancy. Otherwise, things look good, have fun again next weekend!

Thank you Andrew. I was surprised that the reddish tints were there too - snow usually gives a blue tint. I had set my custom wb using the expodisc, which usually makes it pretty darn close ot pefect. Not this time though. :( |

I'll echo my thanks for sharing these, Linda. I think you're on the right track (heh, no pun originally intended) with these. Good luck with the paper and you might consider handing out cards to the drivers with your email address - if they're interested they can email you their name and number and you could send them a shot from the race. Eventually work up to selling them the shots, maybe. |
