I have made a little light box, out of pvc, and have a white shhet over it. (It actually works pretty well. I'm using poster board as my BG, and if I use any color rather than white the whole picture looks grey.

I am just kind of getting into the macro thing, could someone give me a tip??

I don't understand. The whole picture looks gray? You mean the background colors or everything in the image? What colors have you tried? Your best friend will be good light, what sort of lighting are you using and how are you placing it?

gray meaning it looks flat, or not contrasty... the best way for us to help would be if you posted an image :)

The problem, IMO, is in that you are using matrix metering on the white background.

AE camera sensors are set up to expose for an even 50% gray, and do not understand full black or white scenes the way your eye does. If you place something fully white in front of a camera, it will under expose to grey. If you place a full black sheet in front of a camera, it will over-expose to gray. They are set up this way because most scenes that you look at have a more dynamic set of luminance values than your studio setup.
