If proof of a photo is requested, in addition to the processing steps taken, should the sidecar file (the XMP) be included as well?

Nope, just sending in the CRW or RAW original will suffice!

AFAIK, no one's ever asked that question before! Since you mention it's an XMP file, I assume yoiu're referring to Photoshop's sidecar file that gets written during RAW conversion.
If your final outcome depends heavily on specific RAW processing settings, it might be easier/faster to include the XMP file than to detail the settings.
You could do so by including them together in a .zip file.

Thanks...that's good to know.

Although I try to make sure I document each edit, I may forget one. This way, the XMP file shows all the settings for that image and can be compared to the original in ACR.

I think I'm in trouble. :-(

According to Basic Editing rules, "No 'effects' filters may be applied to your image, with the exception of Noise and Gaussian Blur."

Does that include a vignette filter? It doesn't act on a selection, but on the whole image.

Right. No filters at all, except those mentioned.

There was a DQ based on vignetting during RAW processing on a Basic Challenge. So no it probably wouldn't pass but if you are unsure how about submitting a verification note to SC via the Contact Page.

Crap! That must be why I was DQ'ed!

I should have known. My mentality was...as long as there were no selections, filters would be okay as provided they didn't distort or change the image. On second thought, I guess vignettes do portray a new feature of an image (which is explicitly forbidden by the rule).

Oh well, live and learn. :-( On the bright side, I'm glad I learned my lesson before the WPL4 started! :-)
